South Lanarkshire College is one of the most successful colleges in the whole of Scotland. Our students’ KPIs are outstanding and we are financially sound. We employ 344 staff, and the staff are the key element to making the College successful. If you want to come and join us on our journey in supporting our
students to achieve the very best that they can achieve, we will be absolutely delighted for you to apply for a position in the organisation. Good luck, and we look forward to seeing you at interview. When I started working for South Lanarkshire College, I had a lot of industry
experience. I was cabin crew for a large airline. I decided I wanted to apply here, so I did and I was lucky enough to secure a position as a temporary lecturer. I started off on a half-day a week
contract and now I’m working full-time. I like working at South Lanarkshire College
because it’s a really supportive environment from colleagues and from management. I work in a very supportive, friendly team. I have access to really good resources within the College. We also work in a really nice building, it’s always very well kept. It’s got a new, energetic, vibrant feel to it. We’re surrounded by state-of-art technology that we can use all the time to enrich the learning environment for our students. I really enjoy my job here at South Lanarkshire College. I’m very passionate about Further Education, the benefits to people’s lives, and the impact it has on them. I know this from my own experience as a former student. The reason why I like working here is we are part of a team. The students are eager, they’re keen to learn. You play a role in developing their skills further. South Lanarkshire College is proud to have achieved an Investors in People Platinum award and this is due to the excellent benefits that staff receive on a weekly basis. The College offers excellent
benefits: pension scheme, flexible working hours, childcare vouchers and various discounts. There are good support services. There are health benefits. They’re very good at taking care of the staff. Someone like me, quite often needs help in terms of days off, or appointments and they’re very, very
supportive in that way. We have many clubs, depending on what it is that you’re interested in. We have a slimming club, a running club, we have a choir. We have electric bikes here in the College, that we’re able to use. We have a Cycling Officer who encourages us, where possible, to cycle to and from work. Different classes such as exercise classes, that are put on for free. There’s also a healthy eating club that the College puts on. Also, they take account of our mental health and wellbeing so there are a lot of mindfulness
classes. You can get your hair done, you can have your make-up done. There are lots and
lots of things. Whatever it is that you’re interested in, we normally have a club set
up for that. Equality is very much embedded in the ethos of the College. We’re encouraged
to ensure that the subject of equality is included in the curriculum. I’m very proud
to have been involved in equality-focused accreditation with the College. We worked
through the LGBT Youth Charter Award and I was involved in the journey with the National
Centre for Diversity through Leaders in Diversity accreditation. The College is the first college
in Scotland to have achieved this three times. Being the first woman lecturer in the Faculty of Construction, I’d like to think that we encourage as many women as we possibly can
to come here and do a really good job and to go out of here with a qualification to
set them up in the industry. We always celebrate equality and diversity within the College.
We offer college information stands throughout the year and celebrate with LGBT, Race for
Life and we also get involved in Pride events and the Kilt Walk. South Lanarkshire College is a great place to work. It’s very friendly and welcoming. I’ve found that the College is really a very good place to work. It’s an interesting place. It’s a small college, it works- and it works well. I enjoy coming to work every day. I enjoy the people that I work with, the people that I meet, especially the students. I love to see them coming in,
especially in the job that I do pre-entry. Meeting students, seeing the confidence that they build, gives me confidence in my job as well. You’re coming to a good place to
work and you’re part of a team. It’s really a rewarding place to work. South Lanarkshire College offers staff and students fantastic opportunities and therefore, I would recommend anybody to come and join us.
