(Music) My big idea… My big idea… My big idea is to have a career in media and entertainment. …to become a pharmacist and help people stay healthy. My big idea is to become a journalist. To provide accessible health care to impoverished communities. My big idea is to develop innovative treatments in pediatric oncology. To teach others the importance of economic responsibility. Become an emergency room nurse. I am an accounting major. Civil Engineering. Psychology. I study Communications. Biomedical Engineering. I want to be an archaeologist. There’s a very broad range of disciplines and fields of study that are offered here. I am studying Medical Laboratory sciences. Nutrition. I’m an Education major. Criminal Justice. I think employers now are looking for people who are well-rounded and who are thinking globally. They’re one of the only schools that has an I.E.P. program. Stands for the International Engineering Program. Its a great opportunity to be able to go over seas. I’m studying abroad next year. The classes are awesome. Faculty is excellent. I love all of my professors. It’s pretty easy for the professors to keep in touch with the students. Of course, we make ourselves accessible. I make myself very accessible to the students. If you have a question you can always contact them. They really care about their students which is great. It’s fantastic every step of the way. (Singing) Go Rhode Island Rams! Dorm life is great. I love, love, love living here. It’s a great way to meet new people. It’s a lot of fun. You make so many new friends. It was really great because I got along with my roommates really well. Living in the dorms is probably where I’ve met the most diverse group of people. We have about ten fraternities and ten sororities or so on campus. Greek life here does great things. Once a semester we do a philanthropy project. We do like clean ups here and at parks and at beaches. Here at URI we have this thing called the Living and Learning community. I lived in the living learning community in Merrow. If you need help you go to your neighbors. If you have some kind of random question, all you have to do is poke your head out the hallway and ask someone. Chances are somebody else will understand it. The food is phenomenal. I really like how we have a variety of food. The grilled cheese. Well, I’d definitely say my favorite food is the stir fry. The stir fry. On weekdays there’s omelets. All you can eat buffet. It’s a lot of variety. There’s a lot of options here on campus. It’s healthy if you’re trying to eat healthy. Usually, every friday is nacho night. Everything a college student needs. (music) I like all the open space. I love the campus. I fell in love with the campus Ton of nice people here. You can’t help but smile it’s so nice here. The quad is what I really like. I like to go out there when the sun is out even just with a book or some homework I have to do and just sit out there and kind of people watch a little bit. For about ten minutes a day, every hour, people come together. We’re very diverse. We get the four seasons. Absolutely beautiful. The seasons, they’re all awesome. It’s a big university but they still give you a sense of community. Small but big at the same time. A small beautiful place. Any interest that you have can be accommodated somewhere. What I like about URI is they have a lot of clubs that are specific to your major. We have over 100 different clubs here. Making a lot of good friends, it’s fun. If there’s something specific you want to do, you can probably find another group of active people who want to do the same thing as you. Whether it’s community service based or maybe you want to be on student senate, newspaper, the yearbook. The Ryan Center is a pretty awesome facility. They have a lot of stuff to do on the weekends. I do highly encourage students to get involved. So over here we have all of our URI merchandise. Sweatshirts, sweatpants, t-shirts, beach towels for the beach. You can go to the beach. The closest one is probably like Narragansett which is maybe like ten minutes away. Boston and New York are really close to URI. Newport’s not far if you want to go. This semester I’ve been to the gym. Gym hours are very flexible. Everyone gets together, they do what they have to do. The exercise machines are awesome. I’m involved in the URI Marching Band. I definitely love being at the football games. You have the football team here, the games are so much fun to go to. A lot of students get into it.
(Announcer) Touchdown Rhody! The basketball is great. My favorite sport is college basketball. Lots of great rivalries. (Cheering) Yea, Rhody! You kind of just really get into it because everyones energy is so high. It really gives me that sense of school spirit. I really feel like I’ve learned a lot and gotten a lot of life lessons from all of the activities outside of my classes sometimes. You’re gonna gain a really great education here. I think it’s a fantastic option, especially financially. They really focus on making sure that you get the bang for your buck. I feel like I’m getting a good deal. Get the most out of your college career because it goes by quick. The education I’m getting here is great. They prepare us well for the real world. There’s a type of Rhody pride that you just can’t shake. Wow. I’ve really gotten a lot out of the university. I love URI! (music)
