Why Should Online Students Attend Graduation? | Ashford University

Driving eight and a half hours
on a Saturday and being here and feeling
the lifeblood of Ashford, where I spent my last few years and
sweat and tears and sleepless nights, to be able to participate in this, and
kind of receive my cake for all the work that I did, I wouldn’t
trade it for the world. I thought it was really worthwhile to to make the effort
to come to commencement and I had another classmate that came
from Los Angeles and a classmate from Austin, Texas and
from New York. We all thought that none of the rest of us would come
because we were all so far away and hadn’t even
arranged to meet, but it was really worth it to finally meet
those people. The pride, the fulfillment- it’s kinda that
final punctuation mark. Walking across that stage, being
recognized with the regalia of the honor societies, representing them, and knowing,”Mission accomplished.” You went to school online but you
deserve to wear the cap and gown and get up on stage and have people
scream and clap for you. And you deserve to feel proud of
yourself, which is something I don’t think you could fully feel if you just have
the diploma mailed out to you. It’s his first degree. And you need to
walk it once. And I came to support him. And we’re
walking together. We’re getting our degrees together,
so it’s very important for me to put on the black dress and
go get it done. You actually have in your hand
the final period at the end of a long sentence.
And it’s all about finishing. You have to finish.
