Welcome to the University of Melbourne
Hi, my name’s Duncan Maskell, and I’m
Vice-Chancellor at the University of Melbourne. Welcome to the university, and to one of the
great cities of the world! This is Melbourne’s first and oldest university
— more than 160 years old, and nearly as old as the city itself.
The University of Melbourne is a truly excellent place of higher education and research, and
I am very excited to be here. The University of Melbourne offers outstanding teaching for students at undergraduate and
postgraduate level, here at our main campus in the heart of the city district, and at
our other locations around Victoria. Over a broad range of disciplines, we have
great strengths in research. And much of that research is conducted in close collaboration
with international and Australian academic and industry partners.
Today in Melbourne, we’re seeing the rise of exciting new precincts where university
and partners collaborate together on biomedicine, the arts, engineering and innovation.
It’s making a great city even better. Melbourne is a place with a real passion for
everything that’s best in life – education and research, lifestyle, music, the arts,
great food – and sport! But the real heart of the University is our
people. Your passion, enthusiasm and inspiration will help us transform the world in ways we’ve
yet to imagine. So wherever you’re from, you’ve come to
the right place. Welcome to the University of Melbourne.
