Voice Teacher Reacts to Selena – Como La Flor

Hi everyone. Andy Davis here again from
Master of Voice, a channel with reactions to performers from across the world. In
this episode, another reaction to Selena from a Houston Astrodome concert. This
time “Como la Flor” or translated to “Like the Flower”. Let’s jump right in. Beautiful held note there. I love this intro. I really enjoy this intro. Some longer,
held phrases here showing off her nice vocal already. But, in a medium volume,
just really setting us up. Her fans know and love this song and I’m excited to
see how it unfolds. Awesome! She knows they love it. She knows
they love it, just milking this song. It was a big hit of hers and they’re just
on the edge of their seat. She’s almost teasing them just a bit
with this intro of longer, held notes. But, I like it because it shows off her vocal
ability so well. And, I love the way some of her vowels sit just back into
her mouth, just a bit, to give it that color that we know and love from Selena. Yes! Oh yes! I love her spins. Before she starts in, let’s look at a
rough translation of the lyrics in English. “I know that you have a new love.
Nevertheless, I wish you all the best. If in me you didn’t find happiness, perhaps
someone else will give it to you.” I love this and I remember it. It was a
hit and I loved it at the time it came out. Of course, she’s just starting the
chorus here. “Like the flower with so much love. That you gave it to me, shriveled,” or
wilted, if you will. “I’m leaving today. I know how to lose,” or accept this loss, “But,
oh how it hurts. Oh, how it hurts me.” I love it. She was so good on the stage.
She just really knows how to work this stage. She was a master of performance
and I just love seeing these vintage videos of her doing her thing
on the stage in front of the fans that love and adore her so much. The lyrics
continue on, “You can’t imagine how it hurts to lose your love. With your
goodbye, you took my heart. I don’t know if I will be able to love again because
I gave all the love that I could give. Like the flower.” Beautiful lyrics. I just love the way she interacts with
the audience to, giving them a chance to chime in there. And, as I said on the last
video that I reacted to on this concert, I just think the band is stellar – doing
such a great job. That was so well done there – the held
note to end out that phrase. And, I just love the smoothness of her vocals – the
legato lines she’s giving us with some of these phrases – and it’s just her tone
quality. It’s just so lush and I thoroughly enjoy her voice. Gone way too soon and, I
know you all that are long-term fans, you still deal with the loss of her because
it was so tragic and shocking and I’m just glad we have these videos. Her music
will always live on. (sigh) Goodness. Up in her head voice. And, then, down in her chest voice. I love it when she goes off on just some
of these ad-lib runs and that’s the fun part about seeing an artist in concert – is hearing them change it up just a bit from the recording. She’s doing such a
good job here, just stellar vocals. But, I am really taken in, as I’ve already said,
by her performance ability. She’s just so fun to watch on the stage. Shoutout! Yes! I love the way she gives a shout-out to
the local crowd there and her fans in Mexico. This must have been an excellent
concert to have attended. It looks so fun, just an electric atmosphere. Wow! Love that slide up into her voice there. Wow. Some nice firework. Maybe this was the end of
the concert. Wow, what a great way to end it there. Beautiful. Wow, such an excellent ending. I didn’t
realize that was the very end of the concert but it makes sense.
The first reaction I did to this concert was the opening number and she did that
awesome “Disco Medley” which I still love and listen to. And, now ending it was
one of her biggest hits. You all, I know we still miss her and love her but we do
have her music in our lives still and I’m just thrilled to feature her on my
channel. And, we will do so much more of Selena in the future. I love her music
but I hope you enjoyed this reaction today. If you did, please click like and
