Welcome back, Miners! It’s Friday, August 28, 2015. Hello, I’m Elizabeth Ashby. Here’s what you need to know about what’s
happening at The University of Texas at El Paso. ### Once again, Washington Monthly magazine has
recognized UTEP for its access and excellence mission. For the third consecutive year, UTEP has been
ranked among the top ten universities in the country. UTEP was also ranked at #1 in the
social mobility category for the fourth year in a row. The ranking places UTEP in the company of
Harvard, Stanford, and UCLA, validating UTEP’s success in blazing a unique trail in higher
education. UTEP’s consistent social mobility ranking
shows that UTEP opens doors for students who would most benefit from a college education. Washington Monthly magazine rates schools
based on their contribution to the public in three broad categories: social mobility,
research and service. ### The Office of Student Life is helping UTEP students ease back into
the fall semester with their Miner Welcome activities. Each morning, the Centennial Plaza has been
buzzing with activities including a pep rally, information booths for departments and registered
student organizations, and interactive activities. The welcome activities continue into next
week with a yoga session, a zumba party, tie dye t-shirt, and much more. See the full schedule of events at sa.utep.edu/osl. ### And the 25th Minerpalooza kicks off tonight
at 6 p.m. Be sure to arrive on time for the pep rally
at 6:30 and stick around for food, games, and live acts including Taboo from the Black
Eyed Peas, Annie Bosko, The Melker Project, and more. Check out parking maps, frequently asked questions,
and more at minerpalooza.com. ### For more on these and other stories, visit
