[MUSIC PLAYING] Graduate students–
for them, it’s taking usually really big
ideas and figuring out what piece of it they can
really own, and investigate, and become an expert in. UMass Lowell is an
incredible community. This is a place where, if you
want to become successful, you’re going to have
the support system. So all you have to do, really,
is just roll up your sleeves and get to work. We have students from
all over the world. And we also have students,
right here, from New England. Working with them as a team,
we all learn from each other. It’s a great time to really
learn more about yourself. Investing in yourself is the
best investment you can make. The university has been growing. And it’s great to be part of
something that is growing. It’s really at the edge of
our knowledge and comfort zone that we learn new
and important things. Those moments where
students discover, and the excitement that follows,
is just an incredibly rewarding experience for me, as an
educator, and as a researcher, myself. I actually really like teaching
the classes that students are the most afraid to take. What we look for in
a graduate student is someone who is really
interested in learning about the research process. And feeling like we
can help the students to get the skills they
need, to go wherever they want to go and
make a difference, is really gratifying. It certainly gives you quite
a bit of a sense of purpose. I’m the first
person in my family to graduate with
my master’s degree. Our main goal is
to to help people. Because growing up, I realize
how much I wasn’t helped, and how much help I needed. I feel like my master’s degree
makes me feel like Superwoman. It makes me feel unstoppable. It makes me feel untouchable. It makes me feel like
my work, and my efforts, and my being mean something.
