compiling a list of schools that you might be applying for, you might be wondering, well, is there a difference between public medical schools and
private medical schools? Besides the fact that
private medical schools sometimes cost much, much more than public medical schools,
it’s that the in-state residency actually does matter. So just as in college applications, if you remember, your
residency counts for you when you’re applying to
your in-state schools. So let’s say you are from California and I’m from North Carolina and I want to go to UCLA or UCSC. You have a much, much bigger advantage than me when you’re applying
for MD only schools. And now that is because a
lot of the state tax money is devoted to helping
those medical students in that state. If you are thinking about
doing MD/PhD programs or MSDP’s, state residency
doesn’t matter at all, which is a huge advantage
because you can apply to a lot of the different
other state schools. My suggestion for you
if you’re doing MD only is to apply to every single
one of your state schools. So let’s say you’re from California. I would recommend that you
apply to every single one of the California schools because you have a really, really great shot of getting into at least one of them and also broadening your scale of where do I want to live or whatever it is. So that might be, if you want to go to North Carolina, you
might be wanting to apply to the state school,
University of North Carolina. Also consider applying to
private schools as well. If you want more advice
