The Right Thing for Students Working Part-time in College Support

My name is Duncan McFarlane I’m a student and also worker at Algonquin College. I’ve been an employee there for five
years. Four of those years was as a student lab
monitor and I’m currently working as an Assistant Assistive Technologist and
I’m studying Computer Programming So some of the reasons I wanted a job at the college while I was studying was so that I had some regular income. I didn’t want
to leave college with a whole bunch of debt. The other thing that I wanted was
to be able to have a flexible job so that they would work around my
timetable and be able to understand the demands of being in school and where
else to better get that than at the college. So some of the things that we
glean from the student survey was that we want to be able to work for the
college after we finished our program. Having our seniority the time that we
worked while we were as a student count towards our seniority is important to us. Having increases, having raises while we’re doing our job as
students is important to us and other benefits and entitlements more than what the college is currently giving us is important to us We’re asking the College Council to do the right thing
