(Brian) There are a very few times in your life,
when you are a student. There are a very few times in your life you are
going to have the flexibility to just pick up and travel somewhere and study. I think that’s an opportunity that no one should let
go by! (Carla) Because it allows you to step out of your
comfort zone. I think stepping out of your comfort zone is
something very important and because you learn a lot about yourself. Especially as an American
citizen you want to be able to explore things
further than what you got at home! (Brittany) Traveling is so easy once you are over
there. The staff, they really help you get situated Umm…It’s really an opportunity of a lifetime! I never thought I would travel as much as I
traveled there. I never thought that I would learn this much. (Elise) It’s an amazing opportunity working in a
different country while you are in college during the semester, getting through credits, and
fully immersed myself within the culture. Working with these people who have lived here,
made their careers here, they offer excellent advice. (Molly) It also challenges you personally. You are
in an environment where you are different and where you probably don’t understand
everything. and that is extremely valuable and actually a lot of
fun. (Dr. Meredith) Study globally, but live locally. We
send students on Encompass which is a peace
and reconciliation program We send students to Eastbourne which is a
globalization workshop. And we have students doing internships and
everything from music industry to PR to advertising to politics. (Brian) You are a very small cohort, really, a
group of people you get to know much better than the people you are usually in class with!
Your professors you get to know much better. You spend a lot more time with them, you got out
with them, you might have meals with them, you will travel with them. So you become a really
close knit group. (Jake) You have these amazing professors and
they make it so much fun. It’s such a different kind of learning experience
than here in the states. So many of my professors set me off in the city
and said, go and explore and like report back and tell me what’s happening out there! (Brian W) It was a life changing experience. They
say college is best four years of your life Its not the best four years of your life unless you
do this! (Stephen) You gonna learn so much more, you
are going to make so many new friends from different cultures, you are going to learn so much
about yourself, about the world, about your profession, what you are studying.
It’s a great experience! (Andrew) You should go abroad, period. Simply
because there is no substitute for it. In the 20th century world, there is no reason not
to! We know that the more plugged in we are to the
global community, the more successful we are in every sense of the word. But most importantly,
I think just in terms of our own sense of identity. (Dr. Margaret) Developing that ability, that humility,
and that curiosity, about the world, that feels to me like what we are all about here.
And SU Abroad is the crown jewel in that
project, right, because we have all these wonderful
centers, we have world partner programs, we have terrific staff at those centers, and so
the opportunity to go abroad and have a really deep and substantive experience is available. [music]
