Study At Top Colleges In The USA
hi everyone I was a foreign college student
from China who studied in the United States and I want
to share some tips on how I handled the admissions process. Each university is different
so you have to check what their requirements
are. Learn as much as you can about the school.
Not just the academics but also the social life and the
surrounding community. Studying abroad is a big decision and
at first there was a little bit of culture shock for me. However, I adjusted quickly
because I had an open mind and took every
opportunity to make friends with American students.
If English isn’t your first language expect to take an English proficiency test
like the TOEFLS or IELTS. For many selective universities
you have to submit an essay as well. The essay is especially important
for international students because it’s a way for university admissions to
see if you can communicate effectively. Don’t wait until the last minute to
prepare for it. I actually started my essay in June
well ahead of the application deadline because I knew how important the
essay was and I wasn’t 100% confident with my English grammar I contacted
College Admissions Review for their Complete Essay Review.
That meant Skype and phone sessions to discuss ideas and revise my essay draft.
It was a choice that I’m glad I made because I think it made my application much stronger.
No matter what you decide or what school you apply to, be sure to do your
research. Prepare months in advance for standardized
tests like the SAT and ACT and make sure your
essay is strong enough to give you a good chance of getting accepted.
