– My name is Renxiang Tang, right now I’m on co-op with Cook Research. – Here at Cook Research
Incorporated our co-ops are excepected to work just as
our full time engineers are. They’re given projects and deadlines. They are actively helping us achieve our goals to treat patients. – I’m helping bench team doing
mechanical bench top testing to evaluate properties both mechanical or chemical properties
of cook device before they get into clinical trials. – Ren is in her third term
and right from the get go when she was hired on we could
tell she was a good student. And she’s always been
a hard worker and came ready to learn and ready to work. And throughout the last
two terms she’s always been ready to accept feedback and take that and implement it into her work. Now that she’s the senior, really can operate with minimal oversight. – At my BME lab,
biomedical engineering lab they help me equip with
all kinds of material and mechanical testing skills for tests. And so when they come here
and they start talking about all kinds of cool
studies they do I’m familiar. I’m familiar with everything like all the concepts they talk about. – [Brad] Purdue has a very
strong focus in making sure their students are placed in
positions once they graduate. And the co-op program really
helps them prepare for that. – One thing that I really
like about bench team is that when people have questions they’ll just stand up in the middle of the
aisle and just ask questions. And then people just throw
in their thoughts that’s relevant to answer the question and that helps inspire
more and more answers. – Co-ops we get from Purdue, you know, we know we’re gonna be
getting some good students as most of them have been
in about their junior year. So they’re really comfortable with the engineering principles and discussing the problems we face in
an engineering context. – I think that’s a benefit of being a co-op instead of an intern. I got to learn more, I got to see more, and all the full times
got to know about me more. (laughter) As part of unique co-op experience we do wellness walk together, we
sit down together at lunch. Talk about, like, cool
stuff that we’re working on, and then the plans for the weekend. So it’s really a good
way to know your peers, know your friends outside of work. (simple music)
