SCOLAPS is the Student Council of Liberal Arts and Professional Studies,
we represent 26,000 students. so what SCOLPAS does is that we are the
student body that represents and relays any issues that students have
to administration It really gives students a medium to engage in academic governance policies engage with professors I
consider it like a buffet I consider it like a buffet we have a wide variety of things that
are offered and it’s up to the student to pick and choose what they want to do and how much
they like to get involved but in SCOLAPS you’re actually engaging in
networking opportunities you’re meeting people you’re doing something that actually
make a difference. I am on the student Petitions Committee where
students petition their grades or whatever problem they have or
issue and we decide on whether or not they can
stay at York or they could fix their grade. Students can also be a part of faculty
meetings where they meet with other professors and discuss much broader issues within York that may be picking the new Dean that may be
contributing to the idea of where to build a new campus, that may be deciding which part of York University
gets certain amounts of funding sown there are many ways that students
can involved they can volunteer, they can also be a
part of the panels, the committee’s, We have our general council meetings where you can get the full rundown on what SCOLAPS is be able to actually meet the executive directors and ask us any question that you want So when a student wants to get involved with SCOLAPS they can actually download a membership form online print it out, fill it out and just drop it
off at Ross S124. When it comes to developing leadership
skills and developing yourself as a person professionally I don’t know if there would be a
better avenue to do that rather than SCOLAPS In the past we have had a lot of change
because of SCOLAPS and we want to continue doing this and empower the students Because in the end the university is for
students and we’re here to make sure that that student experience is one that is very well
enjoyed, and make sure that university life is a meaningful one.
