in the ceremony today we have a little
over a thousand students participating over 2,000 graduates for December when
we see the student cross the stage you see that excitement and you see that
sense of accomplishment we provide hope and opportunity for
these students whether they’re going to the workforce or to the university it’s
the first point they can get into that opportunity for a better life for a
better quality of life we had over 4,000 in May and this 2,000
means 6,000 graduates this year from South Texas College they’re completing
any one of a hundred 19 different degree and certificate programs it’s truly
amazing to to be done with this chapter and continue on with my bachelor’s the
classes were awesome and the professors were really great I liked that the
classes were smaller you get of a more personal experience with the professors
and they’re more accessible and I just had I met a lot of great people I mean
really good friends and it was just a really great experience overall another
very special group of graduates they’re from what we call our career in
technology early college high school we in partnership with Weslaco ISD
this is the first class that actually entered the high school because it’s a
third year and this is the third year of the program and so they actually
completed the SEC requirements you get their certificates and they’re actually
the first group from the state of early colleges to CT early colleges to
actually receive this honor this feels great being the first. Not only in Weslaco but in the state. Feels great. Well, for me I want to graduate, find a good job. I think all of us here do. Money cannot amount to the joy that we have when
we’re here celebrating with our grads and their success learning is a lifelong
experience and the best of luck to them I feel relief, excitement. Just happy happy the fun
part begins we’re excited to get out there and start working, A bachelor’s degree and then after that I don’t yet. I haven’t decided. The medical field has always been something Ive loved since I was younger. I saw my family get sick alot. So I wanted to kind of learn how to take care of people, mostly my family. When I got out of the military I came back home because I was stationed in Colorado That was my last duty station and I decided to try to become a
diesel technician they were really helpful as a matter of fact any
questions that I had they helped me through my process to apply for my
benefits to fight through school and any questions that I had I will go talk to
them and that they helped me out a lot the advice that I have for them is not
to give up there’s somebody I was just going to help them up and it’s a great
experience I mean you you earned the benefits I mean it’s it’s awesome but my
friends thank you for putting up with me through all these nights of doing
homework and doing discussions assignments my family thank you for
supporting me all the time and the students here I mean congratulations
you made it
