Social Progress Index; Where Does America Rank?

good the well it where does America rank on social
progress now living in America you would probably
say that we’re number one but according to the
social progress index which is a a global ranking and issues such as personal safety axis
new do to nutrition and basic health care access to basic knowledge personal
property rights america is not number wants president
were not even number two we are actually rate in 16th place 16th place what happen america now some examples are the individual
rankings I found troubling are that we’re 870 70th and health 39 to basic education 34th in access to water and sanitation 22nd in personal rights however we do
raging number one in advanced education go
America which is odd because we are also the
number one country for prison population diabetes and for believing in angels interesting but when it comes to meeting the needs
of its people america has actually fallen short compared to nations like Switzerland
Iceland Netherlands Norway Sweden Canada Finland Denmark in Australia who also happen to be the
happiest countries as well according to the UN World happiness report now steven has actually put together I’ll
let alone that you would like to share from so is as be I ring kings: Stephen yet so I went through all the
time individual metrics that and the FBI and extend them out to me is
altogether take reasonable rankings in as you
mentioned the US is that ranked 16 and and you know begin from England I
thought compare the US to the UK and UK everyone’s ranks 13th so ready slightly better the eight is still not
brilliant but really a tiny island nation compared to the might
America to hear the lesson tended for the US shocking stats for america am
in 10 the STI index at number ten is your ranking on by
divers in habitat protection which they say how you look off the
endangered species and sent by ames marine wildlife and you’re ranked 67th and out the 132 countries i think is in the STI
index UK 62 in traffic deaths in SS number of deaths per 100,000
people and your rank set 37 the UK’s ranks third say what we’re not dying in cause no way
near as much as you I demand it definitely do you have more cars on the
roads the as a huge difference press freedom and Will County both ranked 21st which it did bring kissing you know
you’ve got it in a speech in your 20s St press freedom corruption is an interesting one and the way they measure this instead he was
the perceived leveled public sets corruption based on expert
opinion and measurement scale of one to 100 and the
US ranked 15th and the you the UK has ranked 12th so you still doing pretty good to you not
the least corrupt nation in the world by a long stretch number six is in child mortality rates and this amazing he’s the kinda America
and the UK so the most you know could part financially well-off
you think you know all the children surviving child UK is ranked 23rd america is frightened thirty-fifth in child mortality rate a is just appalling and I think I’m
stats get worse freedom over life choices and this is measured by the obsessive
respondents are on seeing satisfied to the question are you satisfied or
dissatisfied with your feet as she is what you do
with your life the UK’s ranks 16th the US is ranked 33rd so you don’t take
me feel free over what you choose to do in your life
community safety nets and yet they see this strength your
welfare state how people felt how strong that strengthen the welfare
state was UK is ranked ninth the US ranked 26 you can add these final 38 absolutely Monday the
inequality to in the inequality entertainment /a
education so the loss of potential education
gender inequality calculating percentage difference between the Human Development
Index and and did base in a hotel in the
complicated stuff that the bases just how your inequality in a social
situation affects your ability to attain higher education you can drag night the US’s twenty-four thick yellow social
standing start with is hard you to achieve better education in the US number two on my list women treated with respect it hit song just crazy dips into female respondents
answered yes to the question I’ll do you believe the women in this country
are treated with respect and dignity or not UK’s ranked 10th the US’s rights thirty-fifth overall so you women don’t
feel particularly in respect the journey in county up a third have all the countries listed in the
index and then the final one at this on like American Jewish and
yourself primary school enrolment to the ratio of
number children those the official primary school age
who enrolled in primary school compared to the total population in primary school-aged children UK is
ranked fifth and land contracts 77 a primary school
in Roman so your primary school kids I’m not
dating in rhode needs much as they should and bows want to just play the waiting
list your education system its popped up obviously this SPI index is an anti-american organization that is
just right down on our great country which is obviously number one at all
these categories what actually when it but all kidding
aside would actually serve really surprised me and I’m and by surprise I mean I totally
don’t believe it is that the United States is rates
seven-year or or somewhere 74 308 s at in in health care I they have to have some kind of weird
day in their effort to be 74 like a I can’t believe that there are 60 8 countries that are better than the
united states and health care like that has the factor in like healthcare Equality so-so to should be
cut to like some silly countries for everybody
has the same access election the health care probably right
above the US for some weird reason our does that still doesn’t know how it goes
because shitty healthcare is better than no health care it’s not
necessarily healthcare alone it’s for hell I’m Cheryl were one of the few like
behind Mexico were one of the fattest countries in the world what we talk about i’m
saying what are we talking about like life expectancy in all that like you
really believe that their think about all the measurements that
are logically in there and you really think that there are
seven the around seventy countries that are better than the US and life
expectancy and all the things I understand we got a
bunch back box in this country we’ve got a lot to diabetes but diabetes
is like outrage country LS like there’s a lot of
countries where your average age is like 45 air like they’ll get diabetes because
they die at 45 I so that that’s just seems like it’s
nonsense in that category I’m sure not great but seventy whatever number is not sets
I’m just said USA’s 978 into combines life expectancy with obesity with suicide rates and in like one or two other things
because you’re beastie banking is so low and you know your life
expectancy is any Mac 26 and i think is maybe your OBC rate that
really does bring that number down a helluva lot and so you admit you the health care
system in America probably isn’t seventy at the core citizens poly in I would use a top-10 the world but
you know it’s in the top 20 I’ll grant you that now is in the 33rd like it’s normally
read to the 30 that’s what I’m saying there’s some think there’s something in there the
obesity which relate number one or number two yes I don’t really trust this guy up
yeah and of course you know obesity late
causes a lot of other problems and you know there sa I mean the kind of
food to read too fast food and all that stuff word that that here in America to supersize in eating you know things
like fried butter a is eight one other thing that you see
in Iowa yeah obviously that’s going to make us
all lot batter I mean I’m kind of I’m kinda have to
gather myself so I’m not like thrown stones right I’m going to the big guy so I mean well you know obesity definitely
will bring down that region yard so um if I can kinda a shift gears
here less light one first off thank you jean
for being the the gun to the watchdog on the reporting
instead of making me do it i cum a so so we can all agree there are
kinda simpson arbitrary like factors there waited maybe more heavily than the other people with should think they could be weighted II
don’t make any muscle argue that america has no BC problem that american for aids means definitely has a a poor
health care system your stuff like that the but does that
necessarily then mean that we should be in the seventies you know ok that’s a fun discussion but that does open the door for great segue
a and wears what I want to go with one
reason why America so be it we’ve seen this in the gun issue you know we’re dan his head just explodes whatever we talk
about guns because it’s such an American ideal to a to value freedom over something
that is demonstrably you know detrimental I you know it to to YouTube it to life
in and and happiness I and that’s that’s away
see an example that you in america we we believe we should have the right
to destroy ourselves a you know an RBC rate is an example
that versus other places I mean that’s why when Michelle Obama
tries to just say maybe we should teach kids about
what’s healthy she called a communist make it because we’ve we’ve in Bur you
know run too far one way with their a so I want to open it up to show like how that may not necessarily although
that that’s kinda the constitutional justification in practice that according to this a SPI index at least thats not really
mature America because wanna bpm %uh so Stephen brought
up some excellent you know specific examples you know sub-categories yada yada yada %uh but
overall there there’s four categories years basic human needs foundations
well-being opportunity and private property rights
so if you ask the average American where we write in these they would probably say hey you know
what europe probably beats us in terms of basic human needs and foundations well-being because it
met part B American ideal is that we believe in competition and in her in competition is gonna be
losers a yet like that’s part of the and and
Europe and Canada and other places may look at us and the appalled that we accept that as the way things
should be and that’s a completely legitimate argument about what but that’s not what we’re
talking about here we’re talking about that’s the way it is well what’s funny about this is that
america’s highest scoring category is basic human needs
like that’s what we did best at now we’re still 23rd so it’s not great um but when it comes to a private
property rights and opportunity that’s what’s bringing
us down we are tied for seven or we are 17th in
both those 90 I said we were 23rd was higher the reason I say that is
because the European Union is Anna however many country wat i for
second place there the only place bettors New Zealand per
property rights um and are opportunities it will
probably rise the only thing we have less a the only thing that ranks lower an
opportunity and property rights in America we were
supposed to be the land of opportunity that the arkansas state motto and we’re supposed to be the place for
private property rights are valued in the europeans ur big government people come in after your
private property rights and I although he does in those
categories but the one thing that does kinda hold up to the a traditional
painting is the foundational well-being in america is is pretty well that’s our
worst scoring category were 36 so it but it’s just it’s kinda funny
here that when it comes to the things we pride ourselves on like it shows how much we’ve deluded
ourselves as it turns out the the big bad big-government European Union is beaten her pants off all those and
that’s that’s that’s super embarrassing that we have that were raped that low on private property rights I
mean read the fifth amendment there’s no reason we should be rate that low we have things in this
country like civil forfeiture laws which basically means that the
government can see on steal your money and stuff from you if they think
that it’s involved in drug crimes and I think that number bet that they
would have to steal for it to be worth it for you to try and get it that is over ten thousand dollars so as
long as they drop you a little bit bad and date they’re gonna get away with
it and up it’s not it’s not better but the pilots
were put out it’s not that the arm the liberal states or the typically
liberal states have better up worse private property rights
and that’s what’s dragging us down by many metrics according to like the
cato institute and all these other libertarian a conservative think tanks
texas has worse property rights than California so like its its all our state’s at all
this eminent domain abuse its all these crazy
things and I just I that’s tested embarrassed every
american because worse was me the free market capitalist and all that and n the basis of
capitalism is private property rights but this is it
that shows that we’re were not that sort of free market
because by mean to be honest with you i don’t think that a true free
market in the libertarian sense exists I think that’s kind of a pipe
dream right in the fact that you have to have some sort of government
regulation in there to make sure to ensure competition right but anyway it’s as far as america being solo and some of these rankings it’s sort of amazing and I think it’s
the fact that we have really sort of embraced ultra-right wing ideology here in
America and a lot of people will falsely blamed
on our welfare systems and say that no no no that’s the problem know it’s it’s it’s welfare its
regulation it’s all that stuff and there are examples love regulation
that is put their specifically as a barrier
to entry and I know you mention that Sean and thats that’s a
good point but none the less they like to blame
love the social welfare systems on what they see as American decline why
were so low on these ratings but you compare that to some other
countries that are the highest in other highest honors listener happiest most of
them have strong government large safety nets
generous safety nets like for example I mean in free in all three
almost three education and things like for example Switzerland
will be voting soon be whether or not to give people twenty
hundred dollars a month for just for being all I and regulation
Iceland nationalize debates arrested the bankers gym you know put
him in prison they they give shareholders more say
over executive pay been golden parachutes that’s a gamble
you know stuff that they’ve done that we haven’t we build up the banker true deregulated
industry legalized everything but the most comically obvious form of corruption was you know with decisions like Mike option
bust unions like it’s going outta style we suppress votes by passing stupid
voter suppression laws we were doing this whole thing wrong and
that’s why are on the decline
