Skidmore College: It’s On Us

Skidmore College: It’s On Us

Skidmore college strives to promote
an environment where consent, understanding, communication, mutual respect, cultural competency and awareness
are the basis of any sexual activity. As Skidmore student athletes,
it’s on us, to make our voices heard and to help
others spread the message. It’s on us to stop sexual
assault before it occurs. It’s on us to embrace affirmative
consent and stop sexual assault. The absence of no does not mean yes. As Thoroughbreds, it’s on us to set the societal standards
that sexual assault must never be accepted. Regardless of who you are,
you can make a difference. No matter your sexual orientation,
gender, religion, race or ethnicity, you, everyone deserves to be safe. This pledge is a personal commitment to help
keep everyone safe from sexual assault, through affirmative consent. It is a promise not to be a bystander
to the problem, but part of the solution. It’s on us to be examples to students
everywhere, that we can create change. And to realize that this issue is not
just on campuses far way. It’s happening here. All of us can be part of the change
here at Skidmore. We pledge as Thoroughbreds to recognize
that non-consensual sex is sexual assault. To identify situations in which
sexual assault might occur. To intervene in situation where
consent has not or cannot be given. To create an environment in which sexual assault
is unacceptable and survivors are supported. It is on us!
