Hi everyone, my name is Pooja, and I’m an advisor at UniRely As promised, today I’m going to be talking about the SAT and ACT. Now, the most important question Well, you can take either of the two tests! Universities have no preference but we recommend that if you are an art student and english is your strength then you should take the SAT since it does not have a science section. On the other hand, if you’re a science student, then you should take the ACT But again, it differs from student to student and you should decide for yourself You can even take diagnostic tests for both and then decide! No, the essay sections are not compulsory but it is preferred that you take them. Top US universities require you to write the essay on either of the two tests Let me explain this with an example Let’s say you take the SAT twice. The first time, you scored a 700 in English and a 600 in Math The next time you scored a 600 in English and a 700 in Math So the individual test scores would be a 1300 out of 1600, but your super score would be a 1400! Confused? Super score is basically the best sectional scores from all the attempts that you’ve taken Some universities accept super scores, while some do not Same applies for the ACT Yes, we would recommend it Often students feel that they can manage on their own but most of the times we’ve seen students Struggle with these tests. These tests have certain rules and tricks that can be used to ace them So, we would suggest that you should go to a tutor or a test preparation center to seek guidance Well, there is no limit to the number of times you can take the two tests but we feel that you should not take the test more than three times Trends suggest that students do not improve drastically after their third attempt Moreover, some universities might ask you for an explanation if you have taken the test more than three times. Yes, they do. The higher the score, the better the chances of admission as well as scholarships. So give it your best shot!! Well, that’s a very difficult question to answer because there is no one good score. Each university has its own requirement and the average admission score for each university varies You can find that out by searching the suggested SAT score for your dream university online Yes, there are some universities that do not require either of the two tests These are called tests optional and you can find a list of these universities online So it’s not the end of the world if you do not meet your goals even after three attempts We hope you found this video helpful!
