(Music) It is a pleasure and an honor to welcome
you to the commencement ceremony for the class of 2019. I know our guests, join the staff of Redmond High School in offering our congratulations and our
best wishes for a bright future to our seniors. (applause) On behalf of the Lake Washington
School District Board of Directors, we want to welcome all of you tonight to
this very special celebration. To the most important people here today, our graduating class of 2019. You’ve studied many hours to reach this moment in your life. You’ve demonstrated dedication, perseverance and commitment and you have accomplished so much both in and outside of the classroom and we are very very
proud of you. Now we send you into the world to new
jobs and careers, to colleges and universities, the military and community and technical vocational colleges. We believe we’ve prepared you well and we are privileged to call you our students. We leave you with a sense of pride and
accomplishment and a lifelong connection to Redmond High School and the Lake Washington School District. Congratulations class of 2019. (applause) (music)…keep my head held high… (music) …there’s always going to be another mountain…always going to want to make it move… (music)…always going to be an uphill battle…sometimes I’m going to have to lose… (music) …ain’t about how fast I get there…ain’t about what’s waiting on the other side… It feels like just moments ago, in freshman year that we were led into those home rooms. I didn’t even know what a home room was and these imposing juniors and seniors they gave us cryptic schedules expecting us to find our way in a maze of B C and E wings. No D’s… no A’s either, like my first quarter grades 10th grade was just the steep hill up to
11th which junior year. We don’t talk about that and senior year our last year and they give us seven periods how could they do us like that…gosh! Jokes aside we worked hard these past four years and now it’s time to get ready for the next step. As we prepared to set off on our own, in search of the freedom that graduation brings. We must also prepare to lose structure and support. Seek value in everything that you do because life is just too short for monotony. You can cheat the day to day as a tests of efficiency or willpower. Solve problems in creative ways instead of” gosh I gotta mow the lawn”. Say’ I am going to cut this grass…vroom vroom. A change in attitude can make things fun. We’re all excited to pursue our dreams and achieve success and right now it seems like all that is on a straight road ahead of us. Our drive will take us far, but the people in your life who’ve supported your endeavors if not
directly then indirectly. Advice, encouragement, simple consideration. People who make you feel happier when they’re around. They’ve lifted you up.
Don’t cast them aside. Class of 2019 we did it. Four years of hard work and dedication leading up to this very moment and here we are. Now I think the most important thing about today is the aspect of celebration. I think that it’s so easy to move on from today as a check mark in our lives. Rather than sitting in this moment, focusing on it and celebrating it. This moment is the ultimate celebration of you and your people. So let’s get started celebrating. Class of 2019, will you please rise. (applause)
