The Universitat Politècnica de València is ranked among the 500
best universities in the world, according to the last edition
of the QS ranking. The consultancy firm Quacquarelli
Symonds annually prepares this ranking, the QS World University
Ranking, and this is, along with the Shanghai
and Times Higher Education rankings, one of the three most prestigious
ranking systems in the world. From 916 institutions assessed,
UPV is ranked between 431-440
in the classification. And among Spanish universities,
the Politècnica de València stayed in the ninth place
for fifth year in a row. Our trend is appearing here
year after year; we have stayed
ranked 400-450. Only 10 Spanish universities
appear in this ranking; more universities should appear
but the ranking asks us for big requirements. When you analize it,
you can see these things. It is good the Comunidad Valenciana
again has a university in that ranking. Academic reputation, employability,
percentage of teachers per student, impact of the educational
staff’s research, number of foreign professors
and international students. These are the six criteria
on which the classification is based. Appearing and remaining there
despite of the rise of universities from countries that are
betting hard for the universities has special merit
because we have less resources, that is, law does not let us… hire new staff for the institution
or make a talent administration policy and we have less financial resources
because they have reduced 20% since 2010 and research has dropped 40%. So I believe the Spanish universities
that appear in this ranking have special merit against other countries
that are very invested. In the present edition
of the QS World University Ranking, the Massachusetts Institute
of Technology was ranked first
in the classification. It is followed by Stanford
University and Harvard University.
