QUT Animation international student shares his QUT story
My name is Michael. I study a Bachelor of
Creative Industries, majoring in Animation at QUT. When I was back in China, I heard QUT Creative Industries has a great reputation in Australia,
or even globally. What’s impressed me the most was the Half
Brick studio, who made the game Fruit Ninja, was established by 3 QUT graduates.
Also, the multimedia facilities here are incredible, so I could not find a reason not to choose
QUT to study Animation. When I first came from China, I studied a
Diploma at QUT International College. I met new people from all over the world,
I learnt new languages. And I even learnt Aussie culture, for example ‘Good day Mate’.
I got massive help from the College staff or class mates in terms of English, academic
research skills, before I entered the degree course.
BCI (Animation) course is really flexible, so I can choose the subjects for my own individual
skills and career needs. I’m taking a minor in Interactive and Visual Design.
Outside of class time, I love to play sports, especially basketball. I’m passionate about
fitness. I go to the gym on the campus almost every day.
In Brisbane, people are very friendly and they are happy to help others.
Multicultural food here is very easy to find. I’ve found many kinds of food from my hometown
in China and many other countries. While studying in Brisbane, I met many close
friends, like my host family that I used to live with. They gave me a feeling of home,
a sense of belonging; they call me apart of the family!
And most importantly, they let me eat as much as I want.
