Quinn Hughes Surprises Fan at Graduation

(light music) – I got a message from Jonathan saying that he was gonna
be the first person to graduate from his school and that he was the biggest Canucks fan. You know, I could tell
how much it meant to him and for me, I think it’s
important to try to do nice things and be a nice person and I feel like this
was a good opportunity to try to do that. How’s it going, Jonathan? Congrats, man.
– Thank you. – Awesome stuff, really happy for you. – Thank you. He’s around my age and I thought we could get along and he’d be a good guy to be around. He’s around my age, so. He’s an awesome guy. Just being able to come, it’s surreal. – He’s had to work very hard. It’s hard enough being a teenager, but having to overcome everything else that was thrown at him
because of the diagnosis, and because of all the
different challenges he’s had, it has taken a very long time for him and a lot of hard work. – Yeah, I was way different. I was very shy, I was
afraid to talk to people. I was bullied when I was
in elementary school. And then when I found this school, it just changed. I’m a man, I’m a grownup. A quote I’d like to say from
a wise old man named Drake. I started from the
bottom and now I’m here. – I’ve always admired people that were really good
people and good with kids and were good inside the community and I think that’s how
you make a real impact. Obviously everything you do on the ice is incredibly important, but I think with everything you can do off the ice, that’s just as important. – Thank you again, peace out. (applauding) – That was awesome, it’s cool to be here. – Yeah, thank you for coming. – Over time, he’s become
a leader in the classroom. He’s grown so much and he’s
overcome so many obstacles in his personal life and social life and academic life. And he’s kind of persevered everything that life’s thrown at him. And he’s such a great
role model and a mentor to all of his peers. And I really hope all of
our kids can look at him and say that can be me one day. I can get there. – Hey buddy, I’m heading
out, give me a hug. – Thank you for coming. – Yeah, all right, that was awesome. Well, have a fun night. – All right, yeah I will. – Really cool stuff.
