Psychology at York College

– I think psychology is really cool because it’s all about the mind and the way people think and how they act, and I find that fascinating. (upbeat music) – We think it’s really important
for students to do research because it gives them
something they don’t get in their usual classes. We don’t want them to make decisions on the basis of a hunch. We want them to seek out evidence and be able to evaluate the evidence, and so doing their own research study gives them that background
to be able to do that. – In grad school, I’ll be doing
a lot of hands-on research, so it’s definitely
prepared me for my future. Thank you guys for
participating in my study. – We are very focused on our internships, and the sky’s the limit in terms of where you can do internships. We have students interning in schools. We have them interning
in healthcare agencies. We have students working
in research settings. I think a prospective student would love the psychology
program here at York College because it’s a close-knit group of people, and the professors are extremely helpful, extremely supportive. – I think most people
would be surprised to know that psychology is one of
the most employable degrees. A huge majority of our
students from York College go into counseling psychology. We have students who work
for community agencies and things like that. – I feel like this is
where I was supposed to be, and for the first time in my
life feel extremely confident in my abilities and the
knowledge that I’ve acquired through my internships,
through my research, that I am prepared for grad school. I’m ready to take that next
step and do it successfully.
