Profile of a Virginia Graduate

What should a graduate look like when they
graduate and go on to either college or some other postsecondary experience or into the
workplace or military and what should that graduate look like in terms of being an engaged
and enlightened citizen? So, I think the biggest change is really defining
not just that you graduate but you are prepared to make the transition beyond high school
graduation. The idea of exposing them to more enhanced
career planning, getting them to think about how their school relates to that career plan,
and letting them see what workplaces are like for all of our students. Traditionally it’s our career tech students
who get that experience, under this new standard the expectation is that all of our students
will be exposed to that so whenever they go into the world of work it is an easier transition. This is going to look different at a school
in Fairfax than it does in a school in Lee County simply because the circumstances of
the community. it doesn’t mean that it can’t be done, it
just means it will look a little different. And I think you will see us now as an agency
shifting more of our resources and time towards engaging schools in how will you get this
done and what models can we share with you.
