Predictions: Michigan vs. Notre Dame – Michigan State vs. Penn State
It’s week nine of the college football
season and Michigan and MSU’s Big Ten title chances are fading.
Both teams have two conference losses and have some tough games remaining.
Beginning this week with matchups against top ten teams.
The Wolverines get a break from Big Ten play when they walked from number eight
Notre Dame under the lights at Michigan Stadium. This is the last scheduled
meeting between the two rivals and the Michigan players talk this week about
the desire to get the bad taste out of their mouth after last week’s
heartbreaking loss to Penn State. The home teams have won the past five games
in this series including the Irish last season in South Bend. They have a lot
more to play for with a five on one record and their playoff chances still
alive. And they have had an extra week to prepare after a bye. But Michigan also
showed some resiliency last week nearly coming back from a 21-point deficit
before being stopped on fourth and goal late in the fourth quarter. Will the
Wolverines rekindle some late-game magic? Like they did in 2011 in the first ever
night game at Michigan Stadium? Scoring 24 fourth quarter points for 35-31 win. Will
they get a lucky break that will help Jim Harbaugh improve to 2 and 10 against
top 10 teams? Well let me tell you this. All 3 Michigan writers see this game
playing out much differently. I have Notre Dame winning 31 to 21 while Aaron
has the Irish coming out on top 24 to 21 Andrew though has Michigan responding in
a big way, winning 35 to 17. Let’s head over to East
Lansing for the 4 and 3 Spartans hosts number 6 Penn State at 3:30. This is just
the third time in program history they faced three straight top 10 teams.
The first two did not go well, with a 34 to 10 loss to Ohio State and the 38 to
nothing loss to Wisconsin. The offense has been dismal with just 434 yards of
offense combined in the two losses. But winning on the road is tough in the big
10. Just ask Wisconsin; which was upset by lowly Illinois last week. And how
about this stat Spartans fans; Penn State is one in four following their annual
white out game in the past five seasons. And guess what? Two of those losses have
come against MSU. If the Spartans defense can contain receiver KJ Hamler and if their offense just have a little bit of a
breakthrough they could be poised for an upset. The
Mlive-MSU writers don’t think it will happen though. Matt has the Nittany Lions
winning 24-13. While Kyle has them winning 24 to 21.
However with Penn State coming off an emotional victory last week I think its
in store for a letdown. Give me the Spartans winning 21 to 17,
on a late touchdown. Thanks for watching, please let us know your final score
predictions in the comments below and we’ll see you next week!
