Hi my name is Greg Wickliffe,
sportswriter for, here to breakdown the Michigan high
school football state championships for divisions 5-8. We’ve got a lot of teams here, trying for their
first championship. While some are looking to continue their
legacies. Let’s get into it. Alright, so in division 5, we’ve
got Almot versus Lansing Catholic. Almont’s 13-0
undefeated for the first time and also in their first state
championship game. While Lansing Catholic, 12-1 is looking
for their first championship and this is their third time in 9 years. In the championship game. Almont undefeated has played a
really good, solid schedule, but I take Lansing Catholic has the
advantage here with the program history and they should be able
to get it done and win their first championship since 1985.
OK here in division 6 we’ve got Monroe St Mary Catholic
Central taking on Maple City Glen Lake. Glen Lake is coming
off an impressive overtime win over Montegue in the state
semifinals is looking for their first state championship, while
the Falcons are looking for their 1st title since 2014. The
Falcons are ranked number one in division Six and probably will
show why with the victory over the Lakers in the championship. In division 7 we’ve got Pewamo Westphalia versus Jackson Lumen Christi. Two undefeated teams. Two
story programs in Michigan. Lumen Christi is looking for their 4th
straight championship while Pewamo Westphalia, an undefeated
team who took down another top team in new Lothrop in the
regional is looking to end that streak. I think that Westphalia
is the better team and will show it in the championship with the
Big 3, ending Lumen Christi’s run. In division 8 we’ve got
reading versus Bill City. Reading is the defending 8 state
champion one of the only remaining state champions still
playing this year. While Bill City, coming off of
a 21 to 20 overtime when looking to knock off reading
and keep them from that second state championship. But the
Rangers offense is just too powerful. And their defense is
also stout. Give me the Rangers for the division.
8 state championship. Thanks for watching and we’ll
see you at Ford Field. Don’t forget to follow the coverage
