♫ Every year, hundreds of international
students from countries around the world attend Pierce College to learn the skills
needed to be successful in today’s competitive global markets. Located 45
minutes from Seattle in the state of Washington, Pierce College’s two campuses
and extension sites are set in a friendly, open environment that takes advantage of
the beauty found in the Northwest. With its mild climate and proximity near the
sea and mountains, Pierce College is an ideal place for students to gather, study,
and enjoy outdoor activities. At Pierce College you can improve your English
language skills, complete the first two years of a bachelor’s degree, earn a
professional/technical degree or certificate, or finish a high school
diploma while earning college credits. Every year, Pierce College graduates
transfer to some of the top colleges in the United States. Pierce offers associate
of arts and associate of science degrees, and Pierce prepares students who want to
study in a variety of fields including business and accounting, economics, math,
English, childhood education, speech and communications, digital design, computers,
social sciences, natural sciences, and the arts. For students interested in the
performing arts, Pierce offers numerous creative opportunities. Classes are taught
in theater, music, drawing, painting, and movie-making. In the black box and
performing arts theaters, students can perform in various theatrical and musical
events at both campuses. The college also offers professional/technical degrees and
certificates designed to provide students with the technical and related skills
needed for successful employment. The degrees and certificates emphasize
practical, work-related skills that translate to effectiveness and expertise
in the workplace. Students prepare for working in their careers by studying
such programs as nursing, criminal justice veterinarian technology, dental hygiene,
construction management, computer information systems, computer networking,
and engineering. The professors are focused on teaching the skills students
need to succeed as well as helping them on the path to graduation. Pierce College
also has an exceptional athletics program. Students can choose to try out
for the sports teams or just watch the games and show their support. The college
has both men’s and women’s team sports in basketball, soccer, baseball,
volleyball, and intramural sports for those looking to have some fun between
classes. At Pierce College students are given many opportunities to get involved
through clubs, student government, and various activities, sponsored by Student
Life. The Pierce College campuses are both modern in design to take in the
beautiful views of the mountains, forests, and the water. At Pierce College Fort
Steilacoom the Cascade building is where students can find all the support services
needed to succeed. Everything from registration, financial aid, and student
services, to the cafeteria, library, and bookstore is located in this building.
The Olympic building houses general purpose classrooms, faculty offices, study
areas, and a computer lab. The Sunrise building is located in the center of
campus and is comprised of general purpose and computer classrooms. The Rainier
building is where students go for hands-on and high-tech learning in science and
math. It features science labs, large student study areas, stunning winter
gardens, spacious math classrooms, and a state-of-the-art science dome. The Science
Dome is a one-of-a-kind digital planetarium where students and visitors
can view interactive astronomy and science presentations on a 38 foot domed ceiling.
The Health Education Center is the physical education and athletics building
where students can exercise and use the gym for intramural sports. At the Puyallup
campus, the College Center building is the gathering place for most students. There
the students can find such things as the cafeteria, offices of Student Life and
student government, bookstore, computer labs, and faculty offices. The Library
Science building houses the library, science classrooms, and the lecture hall.
The library is recognized as one of the college’s most valuable assets for
students. The Arts and Allied Health building features a beautiful performing
arts center which supports plays, concerts and guest speakers, providing an
important art space for students and the community. It is also where the popular
nursing program is housed. The Puyallup campus also has a Health Education Center,
which is a full service fitness and recreation facility that many students,
staff, and faculty use on a regular basis. Pierce College takes pride in the
facilities, programs, and educational opportunities it provides to students. The
possibilities are limitless and our goal is to help all students succeed.
