Pepperdine | OISS – How to Apply as an International Student

Pepperdine | OISS – How to Apply as an International Student

Hi, my name is Brooke Cutler, and currently, I serve as
the director of the office of International Student Services
here at Pepperdine University in beautiful Malibu, California. This is your International
Admissions team: Scott and Sue. We’re the ones answering your
emails, and your questions, and we’re here to shepherd
you through the process every step of the way. Our application is now
live, for both terms. For the fall semester,
beginning in August, the deadline to apply is January 5th. We do enroll a true cohort
for our spring semester, beginning in January, the deadline to apply for the spring
semester is October 15th. At Pepperdine, we like to collect our applications and build
our international class all at one time, so therefore
we don’t participate in early action, or decision programs. When you apply to Pepperdine through the common application and
submit a complete application, you will automatically be
considered for admission and for international
student scholarships. For more information on
application instructions, please follow this link. At the link, you will find
application instructions, information about waivers
for English proficiency, as well as college-level credit that we’ve articulated
for advanced curriculums, such as AP, IB, and A-levels. Since we’re international
credential experts, we’ll read your application
if you schooled outside of the continental US,
regardless of your passport. We also partner with the admissions office to review applications
for international students for schooling in the United States. So, don’t worry, our academic
review is done by the experts who know your education system. In addition to submitting
the common application, Pepperdine also has two
supplemental questions that help us determine if you’re a good fit for our community. Please know, there is
no right or wrong answer to these questions; the only wrong answer is not answering the question. Additionally, we also
require an academic letter of recommendation,
sitting of the SAT or ACT, and proof of English proficiency. You may have heard of the
term “Holistic Review”. At Pepperdine, we’re looking
for students that are both academically prepared for
Pepperdine, as well as students who embody
our mission and vision, as a university: purpose,
service, and leadership. When we review you
academically, we believe that how you perform in
your own education system is the best predictor of how
you’ll perform at Pepperdine. Yes, we do require
standardized examinations, those are designed to help
us answer any questions that we have about your
academic performance. It could be something
with your curriculum, the trend in your grades,
or your English proficiency. We equally value the softer
side of the admissions process. In essence, we’re not only
interested in you academically, but at your heart, we
determine this, and your fit to the university based
on your application essay, your supplemental questions,
your letter of recommendation, and your activities. Think of it like we’re
traveling the world, looking for interesting
and unique spices that blend together to make
an incredible recipe. Your international student
cohort, are you that student? That special spice that we’re looking for? If so, please tell us your story through your Pepperdine application. On behalf of the
International Admissions team, we look forward to
reading your application. – [Together] Go Waves!
