PASSAGE USA Graduation

So, PASSAGE USA is an inclusive
post-secondary education program for students with intellectual disabilities
at the University of South Alabama. Students are being placed in academic
settings and doing academic coursework. They are being instructed in social and
independent living skills and they’re gaining work skills. I am excited and my dream came true that, I would go to college. This is the first class of students who have made it through this two-year program. And they’ve worked really hard, they’ve accomplished things that they didn’t think they could. I mean if it wasn’t for PASSAGE USA then I probably wouldn’t have a job and probably would have never got the experience of going to college. They prepared me a lot and I just feel really proud. Because of this program, he has a chance to do a lot more than he could have before. So when it came available, we celebrated. It meant everything to us. Well I never thought that I would feel this way. It meant the world to me. It really meant the world to me. This graduation is more than a celebration of those students, it’s also a time for the university to celebrate. PASSAGE USA was the first inclusive post-secondary education program in the state of Alabama. One of our main roles is to take them to class, be a friend, guide them around, go to lunch with them and make sure that they know that they’re not in it alone. And I’m so proud of what they have
accomplished and what everybody is accomplished. When our students walk across the stage, they like other students will be representing all aspects of the university community. When I see him walking up there, I will be probably speechless. And to see that event will be such an incredible
accomplishment. I’m very proud that they prepared me for my future jobs, you know, like the one I have right now. I just want to thank them for that. They have been wonderful to me.
