[ Music ]>>It was life-changing. As I said, this was my first job.>>Yeah, it was definitely just a
great way to explore a city that has so much history and so much culture in it.>>It completely changed my career path. So, I went in. I had already taken the LSAT one time, and I was going to study again once
I returned home to go to law school.>>With the Panetta experience,
with the internship in congress, it really helped me find a
passion for public service.>>I learned a lot about myself
professionally, and just how I kind of operate and navigate in an office.>>As an intern, it really opens your eyes
to see the kind of work that can be done, if you have enough time and you
put enough effort into wanting to pursue a career in public service.>>If you’re interested, and you
know you can give it your all, and intend to give it your all, then apply. I walked in with no experience, and no,
like, knowledge of anything political, and I walked out knowing that, like,
policy and politics impact everyone.>>I thought it was going to be kind
of just sorting files and sealing mail, but I was excited about anything, just because
that experience would have been amazing, but it just ended up being so much more.>>What I would encourage
people who want to apply is, regardless of what background you come from, if
you have this interest in serving the public, if you have this interest in serving in
politics, this is really the opportunity for you, because that’s what it’s meant to do. It’s meant to kind of ignite that fire
for people who really want to pursue it. It’s not really meant for people who have
had the years and years of experience, who will benefit from it, but
not as much as those who haven’t. This is really for those who want to
get into it for the very first time.>>I really now want to go and change policy
in general, but more working through working with people, and kind of
set up policies to make sure that people aren’t discriminated
against, things like that. But, I guess the way that the internship
changed me the most was, instead of focusing on individual cases, I want
to go and effect broad policy. I really just want to develop
programs that change the world.>>The Panetta Internship is available to
all junior and senior students in the CSU who are both US citizens
and California residents. Students must also have health insurance
compliant with the Affordable Care Act. There are four main steps
to the application process. First, the Panetta application. Second, an interview with
the university committee. Third, interview with the university
president or designee, and then lastly, an interview with the internship in Monterey. Students should also expect to have an example
of graded academic work, official transcripts, letters of recommendation, and a current resume. We wish you the best of luck, and if
you’re interested in learning more, come to one of our information sessions. [ Music ]
