Reader: Randy woke up suddenly from a deep
sleep. Outside, the morning light was changing from black to light gray. Randy
felt a scared feeling deep down in the bottom of his stomach. Today was the day for
basketball tryouts at Westview School. This was the first year Westview School had a
ball team, and Randy wanted to be one of the first players. Randy looked at his alarm
clock and saw that the hand pointed to 5:00 a.m. Randy groaned and turned over in bed.
He had to wait three more hours until tryouts. When the alarm went off at 6:00
a.m., Randy got up and got dressed as fast as he could. Coach: “Name the who or what.” Reader: Randy. Coach: “Tell the most important thing about
the who or what.” Reader: Randy has basketball tryout. Coach: “Say the main idea in ten words or
less.” Reader: Randy has a basketball tryout at
Westview School this morning.
