Overview of the Graduation Process

>>This will be a brief overview on
the graduation process for iSchool. To learn about the process, direct
your browser to iSchool.SJSU.edu. In the upper right hand corner, click on
the hamburger menu, expand the heading for student resources, and
then click on graduation. Once there, you will see basic information
about the graduation application process. There are two main steps; candidacy approval and
the application for award of Master’s Degree. Keep in mind that there are strict deadlines
for submitting each and if you miss one, your graduation will be delayed
until a future semester. The deadline to submit the candidacy approval
form is approximately 4-5 months before the beginning of the semester in
which you plan to graduate. The application for the award of Master’s
Degree form is usually due at the start of the semester in which you plan to graduate. For current deadline dates, follow this link to the graduate admissions
and program evaluations page. The dates are also listed on the
information pages for candidacy approval and application of award of graduate degree. When completing the candidacy approval form,
notice that there is a link both for the MARA and MLIS programs, so visit the
page for your respective program to see the applicable instructions. We will look at the candidacy
approval form on the MLIS, as you can see there are
step by step instructions. Make sure to follow these
instructions, otherwise you will have to revise and resubmit your form. Also keep in mind that for
the form to be approved, your GPA must be 3.0 or above
with no incompletes. Here is the hyperlink to access the
pdf form for candidacy approval. An e-signature is required on this form. To e-sign you will need the latest version of Adobe Acrobat Reader DC
installed on your computer. There is a link to download
the free software here. Make sure to download the pdf to
your computer and open the forum in Adobe Acrobat Reader before completing it. Once you have opened the
form in Adobe Acrobat Reader, use your keyboard to complete the following
fields; student information, degree information, and proposed graduate degree program. In section A, list the iSchool courses
that you have taken or are planning to take to meet your degree requirements. It is important to list them in the
order in which you have taken them. In section B, list your culminating experience;
this is either your thesis or e-portfolio. Do not list this in section A. If
you are applying transfer credits from another university, or credits
from the SJSU open university, list those in section C. Keep in mind you
can only apply a combined total of 9 units from transfer courses and
open university courses. Do not list these courses in section A.
Finally, sign the form using your e-signature. You may need to follow the
steps for configuration. This form can be submitted any time after you
have completed 9 units in the program, however, if you end up taking different courses you
must submit a course substitution form, so we suggest waiting to complete
your candidacy approval form until you’re nearing the end
of your stay in the program. If you do end up taking different
courses from what you listed on your approved candidacy approval form,
go back to the iSchool graduation pages. In the left hand menu, click
on changing planned courses. Here you will find step by step instructions
and the hyperlink for the pdf form required. Make sure to download the pdf to
your computer and open the form in Adobe Acrobat Reader before completing it. On the form, enter your student
information, for courses dropped, list the courses you did not take which were
listed on your candidacy approval form then, on courses to be added, enter
the courses you took instead. If you have more than two
courses to add or drop, please submit the information
on a second substitution form. Once you’re ready to submit either
your candidacy approval form or course substitution form, go to
one.SJSU.edu to log into Canvas. In Canvas, go to your course tab and click on
the iSchool advising and administration course. If you do not see it listed, click on
all courses and you should find it there. On the iSchool advising page, you will
wee hyperlinks for candidacy approvals and course substitution,
in the homepage content. For each respective form there
will be a place to upload the pdf, just as you would any other
Canvas course assignment. After candidacy is approved by [inaudible],
you will be prompted to submit your application for award of graduate degree
to your My SJSU account. Go back to the iSchool graduation pages. On the left hand menu, click
application for award of graduate degree. Here you will see the deadlines and
instructions on how to complete this step in My SJSU, as well as a video tutorial. In your My SJSU student center,
click on my academics and then click on apply for graduation. From here it is a simple step by step process. If you have changed your address, go back to
my academics, click on my graduation status and there is a hyperlink where
you can update your address to insure you will receive your diploma. If you have to change your graduation date
once you have already applied for graduation, go back to the iSchool graduation page. In the left hand menu, click
on changing graduation date, here you will find an online form. You must submit this change of graduation
date form and pay a $10 fee online. If you have any questions about this
process, go back to the iSchool homepage. From the hamburger menu, find
quick links on the left hand said, click on student services,
administrative support. Here, you can go to the contact
