Optometry at Aston University
So, what’s one thing that you really like about Optometry? I’d have to say the fact that you can improve someone’s life and someone’s standard of living dramatically by just using a few simple techniques. One thing I really like about Optometry as a profession is that every day you deal with a different set of patients, so no day… no two days are the same. …use equipment, learn things that you’re going to apply while you’re doing the degree, which is really useful. What’s been the highlight of your second year studying Optometry? For me, I’d have to say the amount of clinical work that we’re doing now and the hands-on practice that we’re getting. “I’ll be showing you two different lenses, just let me know when it’s clear and rounder…OK. So better in position one… or position two? So is this the place that you’ll be stuck in after you do Optometry? Well I think that is the stereotypical view of things but after having come to university and studied Optometry, you realize that there’s so many different options available after you graduate. Well the big things for me is that it is the number one Optometry School in the UK and, being an international student from Canada, it has a really good reputation internationally as well. So you scored really high in the University
Rankings, and also had major success in the NSS – what’s your secret? Well, the student experience is really important to us and we spend a lot of time thinking about how we can ensure that the students get an excellent education, but also a really good university life experience as well.
