The teaching Skills in Supplementary Schools
course is really for teachers who work in supplementary education to develop their skills
and practices. It covers quite a wide area, we look at the English education system as
it is currently and learners can get an opportunity to compare that to education when they were
at school. It also covers lesson planning, how to evaluate how the students are actually
learning. It will also cover things like differentiation and learning styles and how to cater for children’s
different needs, including their welfare needs within the supplementary setting as well.
Then we will look at evaluation of learning, how we record pupil progress and how you evaluate
your sessions. The course runs roughly over an eight-week
period, and during that time they do classroom activities as well as a micro teach towards the end. [learner giving a micro teach]
