JOE: FROM FOOTBALL TO
VOLLEYBALL, WE ARE STARTING TO
SEE SEVERAL TEAMS FROM COASTAL
COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES IN
SOUTH CAROLINA COME TO NORTH
GREENVILLE UNIVERSITY. ANOTHER SIGN OF A RIPPLE EFFECT
OF HURRICANE DORIAN. JUST A NORMAL PRACTICE.>>THE GOAL IS THE SAME AS EVERY
WEEK, WIN. JOE: FOR THE FIDDLE, UNDER
ABNORMAL CIRCUMSTANCES. — FOR THE CITADEL UNDER
>>THE CITADEL IS PRETTY MUCH
SYNONYMOUS WITH UNORTHODOX IN
TERMS OF NORMAL COLLEGE
FOOTBALL. THIS IS JUST ANOTHER WALK IN THE
PARK FOR US. THIS IS OUR 4TH YEAR WITH A
HURRICANE BREAK. WE’VE EVACUATED A FEW TIMES. THIS IS JUST LIKE A FIRE DRILL
FOR US.>>THE UNITY THAT COMES FROM
THIS IS FAR GREATER THAN ANY
COST WE COULD EVER INCUR. JOE: BUT THE STORM COULDN’T
DESTROY THEIR FOCUS.>>WE’RE JUST GRATEFUL TO BE UP
HERE AND AWAY FROM THE STORM. JOE: OVER AT THE GYM,
MUCH-NEEDED PRACTICE FOR A YOUNG
CHARLESTON SOUTHERN VOLLEYBALL
TEAM TRYING TO FIND THEIR FEET.>>WE DON’T KNOW REALLY WHAT’S
GOING ON, HOW LONG WE’RE GOING
TO BE HERE, WHAT WE’RE GOING TO
DO. WE’LL STAY TOGETHER AND HOLD
HANDS. WE’LL GROW A LOT FROM IT AS A
TEAM IN THIS WHOLE SITUATION. JOE ABOUT 40 PLAYERS, COACHES
: AND INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS
FROM CSU WILL STAY ON CAMPUS,
WAITING OUT HURRICANE DORIAN.>>DORIAN IS WREAKING HAVOC AND
IT’S NOT EVEN HERE YET. JOE: COACH DAVID MCFATRICH COULD
HAVE SENT HIS PLAYERS HOME. BUT THEY DECIDED TO STAY
TOGETHER DURING THE STORM.>>THAT’S JUST WHAT I KIND OF
WANT TO BE IS A SHEPHERD. I’VE BEEN ENTRUSTED WITH THE
LIVES OF THE PLAYERS AND THEIR
GOOD WILL. MY JOB ISN’T JUST A VOLLEYBALL
COACH. JOE: AND LEAN ON EACH OTHER TO
CREATE A NEW NORMAL.>>IT’S REALLY UNITY TO IT. BUT AT THE END OF THE DAY, WE’RE
ALL CUT FROM THE SAME CLOTH
PRETTY MUCH. JOE: BACK OUT HERE, THE
CHARLESTON SOUTHERN WOMEN’S
VOLLEYBALL TEAM GETTING LOUD AND
PROUD. THE UNIVERSITY SAYS THEY ARE NO
STRANGER TO HELPING OUT WHEN
THEIR COLLEGES IN TIME OF NEED. THEY HAVE HELPED THROUGHOUT
DOZENS OF HURRICANES IN THE
PAST. THEY SUE IT — THEY SAY THEY DO
IT OUT OF CHRIST’S KINDNESS TO
OTHERS. JOE RIPLEY, WYFF NEWS 4, LIVE AT
