Welcome to Skydeck demo day for our fall cohort 2015 This is our second official demo day here at sky deck. So it’s time for a few traditions that we will establish so First of all every demo day will talk to you about what’s new what’s happened in the last six months since the previous demo day What we’re excited about what we’re looking forward to what gets us up and here the morning bright and early and staying late at night second of all We’ll have someone from our extended community talk to you and give you their perspective on sky deck and I’m sure you’ll enjoy listening to mark Terpening So what’s new at sky deck the floor The floor is new the walls the kitchen and as of next week the carpet at last And a new website and an entirely new brand identity for sky deck Do you like our new logo? What do you think? Yeah, I Absolutely, love it And what I also love about it is that it was designed by one of our team members who is on site Carrier hwon of tinkering labs there. She is Her team will be presenting today What else is new we have a new type a new track in our program we have the regular cohort of six months Six months to a year most teams are here for six months We also have a hot desking track that is not for the teams to burn themselves on the furniture But we open it up to year-round applications for teams. Who are Perhaps a bit early for Skydeck and we’d like to keep an eye on them as a mature Or teams who are really interesting and we’d like to get them involved what we’re doing But it’s mid-session in between those six months of applications We have now 55 advisors working with the teams many of you are here today and you’ll hear me say you Could not do this without our advisors no question at all. We could not do it We could ask a lot to be a point of contact for the ecosystem the vast array out there of entrepreneurship innovations startup Etc. It can be a bit confusing We try to be a point of contact in fact on the back of your schedule here I could turn this over we listed every organization that we can think of and maybe we even missed a few with contact names Trying to help you navigate that system out there, which is very powerful It’s also trying to align more more and more One thing that’s happening Scott Adams Scott. Are you here yet? I know he’s showing up sometime today the author of Dilbert Scott asked me what what does UC Berkeley need and I said we need a really professional website that can be a point of entry Into the startup ecosystem from the outside world investors, especially and for startups to see what we have so he built it and The university is going to help fund it That’s going to move this this forward this this dizzying array to bring it all together We’re adding elements to our program We’ve added a design element design is really important for every startup. So advisor Tim Smith is working that out for us with people from Google design and We intend to coordinate this with what’s going on at Berkeley with the Jacobs Design Center What else there’s a lot of investment coming to Berkeley coming to teams I will say this every demo day until it happens Which one of you VCS would like to get an office here on Shattuck Avenue because this is the next Sand Hill Road Right, we need a shingle out there There’s lots of investment coming here. We’d like to formalize it We’d like to see VCS put out their shingle seed funds put out their shingle When I asked Kerry to make the logo she said well what what’s what’s Skydeck about What’s the essence of Skydeck and we talked about how we’re on this top floor downtown Berkeley. This is the tallest building in Berkeley We are actually literally on the top of Berkeley and I said from here the team’s launch they fly We talked about birds of prey hawks and eagles and leaving the nest Which she came back with even more she came back with this logo The center of which is a waxing crescent moon surrounded by a constellation a universe of points of light and The startups we believe here can go to the moon They can be moonshot startups surrounded by a constellation of UC Berkeley talent technology Discovery Resources labs patents people in this room people behind us Saying that we believe our teams can go to the moon Isn’t so far-fetched with that kind of a universe Even bigger than this universe in the last six months What I’m excited about is the entire UC system now coming together So for the first time The University of California Office of the President is calling together meetings and strategies for all of us across the 10 campuses Directors of innovation directors of entrepreneurship directors of program tech transfer I was in Irvine this week People from all over trying to figure out how can we row in the same direction? impact legislation on a grand scale That’s a powerful boat if we can all get running in the same direction, which I think we can so I’m going to emcee the team’s a bit and do a little introduction for you And we’re going to have some a little bit different format for demo day here And I’ll tell you about that in a little bit. But first I would like to introduce mark Terpening mark I just went ahead mark has four lenses. He has the Berkeley grad lens he has the investor lens. He has them working with the teams lens and the co-founder of Tesla lens So he’s a great example of the power of this network, right? Want to hear some pitches? Okay. All right. So let me talk a little bit about the structure of today. We’ve got 19 teams for you We structure it a little bit Thusly so the first 12 our regular cohort teams They’re giving their seventh minute presentation for your investment consideration In between there will have a break for networking Refreshment cooling down a bit. I know it gets hot in here. Try not to breathe too much We’re working on air conditioning. That’s that’s next remodel and then afterwards we’re gonna have seven rapid-fire showcase pitches four of those are cohort teams who have very interesting technology to talk about and Three of them. We have a very special treat for you We are giving you a sneak exclusive preview into our next cohort those teams those three teams at the end have been hot desking Warming up and so we’ll give you a little taste of next demo day and on your program This is the order and note at the bottom There’s a link. If you go to this link there every team will be listed who’s presenting today And if you’d like to send an email to request a follow up for a team You don’t have time to meet with today. This is the easy way to do it Of course contacting me or my staff is another easy way and in your printed program there That’s all the cohort teams. The three hot desking teams at the end are at this link. That’s housekeeping. Okay, who’s on deck? first up IOT has disrupted many industries and now it’s disrupting Ag tech Steve Bogart of Bar max we are done. Did you have a good time? Yes.
