Boring as hell! Predictable and unfunny. As you said. Thanks. Reply CineGamer says: May 29, 2018 at 11:24 pm I've never seen an 80s college movie so I kinda liked MU. It will never be as good as Monster's Inc. though. Monster's Inc. in my opinion is one of the most interesting Pixar films ever made, it's just below the Toy Story series in my opinion. Why is it not on the same level as Toy Story? BECAUSE ITS FUCKING TOY STORY!! I have to admit though, MU could've been so much better. Reply Cipher says: June 12, 2018 at 3:27 pm Strangely… This is my favorite Pixar movie Reply Erif The fox gaming says: June 13, 2018 at 2:47 pm The game bully is better Reply Carl Simpkins says: June 14, 2018 at 12:22 pm I love this movie. The original was better tho. Reply Marvelfan 2.0 says: June 17, 2018 at 4:38 pm Hey Doug what is the music that`s playing during your review?I really love it, it`s very up lifting and gives me Goosebumps of joy. Reply blendernoob64 says: June 19, 2018 at 8:53 pm I think the best thing about this movie is the tech behind it. Despite being a cartoon, the lighting is gorgeous, because of Pixar’s cutting edge rendering tech they used starting with this movie. As a CG artist, I am always amazed at how realistic the lighting is. Reply Wazowski's Apprentice says: June 26, 2018 at 3:54 am People complain that this is just like "Revenge of the Nerds"… I say what's there to complain about? You get to see John Goodman in both of them. Reply Wyvernblue says: June 26, 2018 at 4:04 pm Only Pixar movie I don't like. Reply Awesomefacexan says: June 29, 2018 at 1:37 pm I wasn’t a fan of this either. You’re not the only one Doug. Reply King Gudako says: July 2, 2018 at 5:22 am i feel like if there was going to be a sequel it would be Boo as an adult or late teens Reply AiraSora says: July 3, 2018 at 11:34 am SPOILER I actually want to really praise the movie for the type of ending it makes. Most kids' movies will say: "You can be anything you want to be as long as you work hard enough", but this movie gives a far more realistic, but still positive message: "Some things in life are just unachievable, but just because you can't reach your biggest, original dream, it doesn't mean you can't be happy."There's so much to life that being unable to achieve a dream does NOT equal failure. And that's REALLY important to teach children, especially with all the bullshit: "If you can dream it, you can achieve it" going around. Don't get me wrong, I like the ever-positive, optimistic encouragement, but it's also important to teach kids that you CAN'T do everything and you aren't supposed to achieve every single dream of yours, no matter how hard you work. So, personally I'll say kudos to Monsters University for being one of the few movies to give a more realistic message than most kid movies do. Reply DA MotoNeko says: July 4, 2018 at 5:37 pm I liked this film. I would just imagine it being a further exploration into the world of monsters. How the scaring works and how they get their info(Which they showed in a deleted scene). I havent seen 80s college movies but i think this is a good contribution to the monsters universe. It could build up to a third movie which references these things. Maybe Monsters Inc is the only place in the monster world that now makes children laugh instead of scare because the other bussineses would be at a disadvantage at making others laugh. Reply Sir Lomin says: July 7, 2018 at 4:30 am I honestly thought this was a sequel before I saw it Reply SmashLiXs says: July 9, 2018 at 5:14 am i think this is a great movie for whoever who has never seen a college movie Reply Matthew Knapp says: July 10, 2018 at 5:40 am Thank god i haven't seen any 80's college movies because it would be really bad Reply A.J. Animations says: July 15, 2018 at 1:41 am whelp they're making a sequel where boo is an adult so hope ur happy Reply TheVanishing87 says: July 16, 2018 at 4:26 am Eh I still like this one. I thought it was cute. And one reason. I liked it was because while this movie did have cliches it avoided the ones that I'm just plain sick and tired of seeing in college movies. There was no forced romance, no boring love interest, no drug usage, no stupid low brow adult humor, and of course no crude, sexual humor thank god! Being a Pixar movie of course the latter three would never creep up into any of their movies, but still I am thankful that someone decided to make a clean college movie for once. I just wished it had come out a little earlier since I had already graduated college in 2011. Oh wellz. Still liked it. I also loved the ending and message. Even in most adult college movies the main characters usually end up getting what they want, but nope not here. Plus the heartwarming moment between Mike and Sully during the climax was really earned. Reply Cory Sowers says: July 21, 2018 at 9:57 pm I agree 100% Reply Twin Kids says: July 22, 2018 at 2:38 pm I think it’s underrated Reply CHANNEL 21 Zach says: August 3, 2018 at 9:00 pm The mean dean doesn’t like them because they broke her scare can Reply MrGabeanator says: August 6, 2018 at 10:39 pm I watched it last night Reply Rainbow Azumarill says: August 18, 2018 at 1:26 am I watched this film a few years ago with my friends and I found it to be such a snorefest. I lost interest after a few minutes. No offense to fans of the movie. But I definitely understand why people like this film. Reply Mystery Racer says: August 25, 2018 at 3:46 am I love the ending to this film. A lot of people were emotionally impacted by the ending of Toy Story 3, the beginning of Up, etc., but those films didn't really make me feel emotionally impacted. However, this film's ending was what got to me. I guess it really comes down to what you are able to sympathize with due to personal experiences or upbringing. I haven’t heard that name in years” Reply snarkus63 says: September 13, 2018 at 4:56 pm You actually compared this to an 80's college movie ….a genre whose main characters were, for the most part, always trying to have sex?!? I don't know if you've noticed, but that's not exactly Pixar's stock in trade!!! Reply Roei Potash AKA Poihpio says: September 21, 2018 at 9:56 pm this movie's great Reply Matthew Mazzetti says: September 24, 2018 at 6:07 pm The dean hated Mike and sully because they broke her fear container thing. Not a fan of prequels unless it's X-Men or comic book adaptations. Also, this movie came out right before when I started college so it was great. Reply Simon J says: December 11, 2018 at 11:28 pm A decent movie on its own, but no where near the level of Monsters Inc Reply Danielle says: December 15, 2018 at 12:37 am I loved the original Monsters Inc, but I absolutely despised Monsters University. I’ve never seen an 80’s college movie but the tropes they went through irritated me Reply h h says: December 15, 2018 at 8:00 pm I like this movie a lot more than most people Reply Dvader134 says: December 15, 2018 at 9:05 pm The Short that came out with the Blu Ray, Party Central, is WAYYYY better than the movie!! Reply Ali Brennan says: February 4, 2019 at 8:29 pm It seems the only Monsters Inc sequel we’ll get is in Kingdom Hearts 3 Reply EmileeJean24 says: February 8, 2019 at 6:58 pm I hated this movie! I only saw it cause I was forced too. I wanted a movie about older Boo. But, No! We got this piece of crap! I hope Pixar gives us a movie on Boo soon! Reply Jason Chaos says: February 12, 2019 at 12:11 am I hate this movie Reply Myles Hoglund says: February 14, 2019 at 1:58 am Honestly when I saw it when I was younger, both me and my mom agreed that it’s not that good.I haven’t seen an 80s college beforehand but me as a 12 year old could catch on to the cliches and story beats. Honestly like you, I definitely would’ve preferred a sequel rather than a prequel. Did anyone really needed to know how Mike and Sully meet? It’s like trying to figure out how Victor Frankenstein met Igor, NOBODY CARES AT ALL. Reply Duhh Jeenyus says: February 15, 2019 at 7:56 am @3:53-55 what happened to the red paint on the wall? Reply Daria Erol says: February 23, 2019 at 3:36 am Lots of people here defending the movie saying they never watched an 80s college film and are part of the generation that grew up with these movies and now entering college so they claim to be the tarfet audience of Monsters Uni. And here I am, never watched an 80s college movie either and am part of the supposed target audience yet I found this movie utterly boring and could predict the whole plot. And damn, there were so many chliché characters I could barely make it through the whole movie. Like it all you want, I'm not gonna stop you, but your arguments to defend this flick are weak excuses. Reply Benaiah Sampson Benker says: March 1, 2019 at 7:09 am It’s your average college movie, minus the sex, drugs, and alcohol. Reply CoolPhil U says: March 7, 2019 at 11:52 am I HONESTLY preferred this to Monsters Inc. And I kinda liked the character development especially for Sulley, my favorite scene was obviously the last. Something that was also inventive was when Mike found out that Sulley had cheated for him in the last task. As other people said, the KIDS probably didn't watch those college movies, and the adults, like the ones that grew up with Monsters Inc. would be in college by now.I might be a bit bias since i loved this movie. Reply Nube Gamer says: March 13, 2019 at 1:43 am I actually like Cars 2. Reply SHANE PARKS says: March 29, 2019 at 2:07 am I gotta say I didn't really like this one either especially where as monsters inc was my favorite movie as a child and is still my favorite childhood movie. When I heard they where making a sequel I nearly flipped but then when I saw that the movie was just a prequel with so many plotholes I was severely disappointed. Pixar definitely could've done better Reply Mark Casadevall says: April 11, 2019 at 3:12 pm Apparently there making a monster inc for Disney+ and I heard the original cast is going to be in it. Reply 4arms4life says: May 6, 2019 at 8:07 pm I don’t recall watching any 80s college movies before watching this and tbh I still kinda didn’t enjoy this as much as I’d hope I would. Reply Games and Stuff with Josh says: June 1, 2019 at 1:11 am The dean hates them because sulley is a hothead and mike isn't scary. Reply MrGabeanator says: June 1, 2019 at 8:48 pm onward brought me here Reply Sentient Potato says: June 9, 2019 at 4:00 pm Seeing this makes me wish there was an actual sequel to monster's inc. Imagine seeing Boo grow up and still hanging out with Sully. Reply Joseph Dannivitz says: June 16, 2019 at 5:13 pm Well, if a sequel to Monsters, Inc. is what you seek, then here's some food for thought:Be on the lookout for "Monsters at Work" on Disney+, because that TV show is said to take place six months after Monsters, Inc. Reply kztar621 says: June 19, 2019 at 11:21 pm The logical place to go with this sequel was to confront Boo growing up with her contact with the monster world, instead they went and made a half-assed prequel nobody liked. Reply Patrick Barrett says: June 21, 2019 at 6:30 am I honestly love Monsters University! It's 1 of my most favorite movies of all time and it's also 1 of those movies I can watch over and over and not get tired of it. Reply Alessandro Damiani says: June 25, 2019 at 4:24 pm I know it's an umpopular opinion, but I prefered Monsters University to Frozen, speaking of 2013 cartoons.Haters in 3… 2… 1… Reply R M says: June 26, 2019 at 2:47 am This was an 80s college movie done RIGHT tho. Actually a really good movie Reply Kevin Farrar says: June 27, 2019 at 1:08 am When I saw this movie, I liked it and thought it was good. I agree that it was not spectacular; but it was decent. Your short form "Disney" reviews are great; keep them up, Doug. Reply Clayton Roane says: June 28, 2019 at 4:33 pm This movie isn't bad, in fact it's somewhat alright, but yeah it feels weird where they had so many possibilities for a sequel and decided to go with a prequel. Reply George Bendall says: July 14, 2019 at 12:05 am MONSTERS UNIVERSITY IS WAY BETTER THAN MONSTERS INC BECAUSE IT'S WHERE MIKE AND SULLY FIRST MET AT MONSTERS UNIVERSITY THE BEST SCARING COLLAGE SCHOOL THERE IS Reply MewtwoShadowFNaFGirl says: July 16, 2019 at 3:27 am Wow. I am not the only one who did not like this movie. I mean why did they have to make Monster's University be a Collage Movie ? Why not just give us the sequel that we had been asking for ever since we saw the first film ? I loved the first film when I saw it as a kid and I really wanted to see it get a sequel due to all the possibilities. Sadly though. Pixar just said fuck it to all that and gave us this. At least after this they did better movies so did this not started s trend of bad movies for them. Reply Kaycee Whitham says: July 18, 2019 at 6:08 am They destroyed her trophy…how dare you! Reply Rainbow Azumarill says: July 18, 2019 at 6:39 pm I thought this movie was a complete snorefest. They really should've made a sequel instead where Boo grew up and showed the future of Monsters Inc after the Laugh Floor kicked off. Reply Jeff Vader says: July 26, 2019 at 2:57 am Awful? It’s not the best, but awful? Reply klimmr3021 says: August 14, 2019 at 5:27 am My opinion on this movie is pretty much identical to yours. The idea of a sequel to this movie pretty much writes itself. Why did they think that the Monsters going to college was a good idea? I wouldn't say it's an awful movie, it's just standard. And, for something like Pixar, "standard" is offensive enough. Reply DubbingCollapse says: August 14, 2019 at 7:33 am 2:52 I could identify with the ending very much.Cause i learned that for getting the diploma for my dream job, it doesn‘t matter WHERE i do it.I don‘t have to have a glamorous school etc. cause in the end, the goal is the goal and not the path (this time, it‘s the other way around). Reply Hilljoona says: August 24, 2019 at 10:38 pm Well the sequel actually exists, it calls : Kingdom Hearts 3. Reply paco ramon says: August 26, 2019 at 12:49 pm One of the few Pixar movies that needed a sequel and they give it a prequel Reply Douglas Zahn says: August 29, 2019 at 3:59 am I always imagined a sequel where people thought she was silly thinking there’s monsters in her closet, but as Boo grows up, she KNOWS that monsters exist, even if she can only faintly remember that big blue and purple kitty an green Cacodemon she once saw, until one day, when she’s all grown up, she awakens one night to her daughter crying about a monster in her closet, but when Boo gets to her daughter’s bedroom, she finds her bed empty and the closet wide open, with a long purple reptilian tail slinking out from it before it suddenly disappears within. Boo chases after it into the closet and finds herself back in the monster world, where she reunites with Sully and Mike as they work together to save her daughter from Randal who has found his way back from the human world seeking revenge. And that ain't just any normal scream canister, that canister is Hardscrabble's scaring record award that she is working very hard to get it, only to get some two freshmen destroyed her hard work in seconds. If I were Hardscrabble, I'd be pissed as well. Then, she decides to test both of them. She gets two results: She saw Mike's drive, courage, and passion, but she saw no raw scaring talent inside of him. On the other hand, she defitinely acknowledges Sulley's raw talent as a scarer. But saw no drive or passion, thinking scaring is just as simple as roaring out loud. As a strict authority figure that expects high standards in those freshmen, she deems both of them a waste of time and kick them out.
