Reply James Barca says: October 21, 2019 at 12:52 pm The Tea Party died (or became completely irrelevant) before 2016. I was an early supporter, but became disenchanted and walked away when the movement was co-opted by the social conservatives. They put their core principle, fiscal conservatism (lower taxes/smaller government), on the back burner and started pushing their social conservative agenda. This drove many people out of the movement. Social conservatives can't win national elections and rarely win state-wide ones. After seeing one "safe" conservative seat after another sacrificed to the Dems on the altar of social conservatism, I wasn't about to support them any longer and actually started opposing them. The TP may have been responsible for winning a bunch of seats in 2010, but the were responsible for losing even more in the intervening years. Good riddance to them. Reply rblibit says: October 21, 2019 at 1:34 pm Mollie, you are a wonderful speaker, and you really make time fly with your enjoyable delivery of ideas, observations, and quick witted humor. But I guess time does fly when you're having fun, and I surely was. l wonder if the Democrat party knows that there are no peaches (yes, the fruit) involved in the process of impeachment. Since the progressives and those mesmerized by their programs and promises are legion, a patriot, knowing that amelioration is impossible, might advocate for a peaceful separation; but would the tyrants and their minions ever allow one? Reply Bill Leach says: October 24, 2019 at 8:50 am It is only necessary to read Thomas Jefferson's original draft of the Declaration of Independence and a few of the founders letter to debunk the idea that the Revolutionary War was to maintain slavery. The Constitutional Provisions that allowed slavery to continue were proposed only because they knew they could not end slavery by fiat. The totalitarian mass leaders based their propaganda on the correct psychological assumption that, under such conditions, one could make people believe the most fantastic statements one day, and trust that if the next day they were given irrefutable proof of their falsehood, they would take refuge in cynicism; instead of deserting the leaders who had lied to them, they would protest that they had known all along that the statement was a lie and would admire the leaders for their superior tactical cleverness.” Reply MOOR TIGHT says: October 26, 2019 at 1:46 pm Ignores the elephant in the room: ONE ETHNICITY owns more than 80% of the media. I wish Republican politicians were half as good at expressing themselves on the key issue, e.g, about the sins of the Democrats and the media's complicity by ignoring all the evidence that shows how corrupt and illogical Democrats are. The media's sins of omission show their bias, a confirmation bias that seeks to present only evidence that confirms their good opinion of Democrats and bad opinion of Republicans. So all of Hillary's real sins get withheld and deemed not newsworthy while Republican sins get exaggerated or made up like Russia collusion. Reply J klinok says: November 9, 2019 at 1:15 am The damaged cell tissue in the body that starts growing out of proportions and destroying the surrounding tissues and organs, this process is called CANCER.The same is happening in the body of politics, when out of numbers powerful “actors”, be it a lobbied industry or a political interest group(s), start to rule over the country and people, with their small minded interests, which usually lay in power control and money, and stir the political and law making process in the wrong direction, and then completely take over the country by forcefully subverting all the safety mechanisms right from the inside. When the safety mechanisms are subverted, bulldozed, and corrupted, the process of destruction of the country and people is usually goes down to its terrible end full speed. History does not have an ultimate remedy against such corrupt processes when they are already in advanced stage of development, except a prompt assembly of the firing squad for the subverts and destructors. Yes, the punishment for the massive Subversion and Corruption of the government institutions which ultimately lead to wars, bloody revolutions, and genocide, should be Capital Punishment to all involved conspirators: organizers, lobbyists, financiers, judges, prosecutors, senators, and all “Yes-man” local executioners of the criminal orders and criminal activity in public offices. Only the fear of Capital Punishment keeps the government bureaucracy from an appeal of highjacking the total power and control by organizing and subverting the government institutions. All responsible to prevent such abuses and who failed to do so by choice, like “free press” institutions, Justice, Law Enforcement, Congress, etc., must be investigated and all conspirators should be punished by Capital Punishment. Any system can be subverted, if there is enough at stake and yet there are no fear of repercussions. Subverting and destroying a system of proper balanced fair government leads to destruction of the country, massive deaths and sufferings, so such actions must be equaled to an attempt of mass murder and genocide! The went amok CANCER tissue must be cut out, destroyed. completely removed from the body of the country! Reply mike ruston says: November 9, 2019 at 3:15 am Well spoken. ARE YOU READY AND WILLING? Be warned, it may mean blood on the ground. It may mean that blood comes from you and yours (or me and mine). It is still the answer to the question asked: ARE YOU READY AND WILLING? Otherwise, go back to your little corner, hope your appeasing NeverTrumpers can do what they have done for longer than I have been alive: make dramatic gestures, concede defeat to "progressives" gracefully and submit to the "unstoppable, inevitable, wave of the progressive future" (as long as the NeverTrumpers get too keep their cash). BTW, this is going too far and in a potential bad place in many ways already, the "progressives" have made it so, the appeasing GOP NeverTrumpers have facilitated this, but the only thing worst would be the victory of the "progressives" and NeverTrumpers. As a final thought, if you are not ready and willing, then it actually is more likely to end up in violence and a very bad place, not matter which side wins, because neither will be the same side as started it. OTOH, being ready and willing to go to decisive action makes it far more likely that ballots and courts will take care of the required purge and the blood will only be virtual. Reply Rick Pettey says: November 13, 2019 at 8:48 pm In the introduction to Mrs. Hemingway, the gentleman left out the most important point, she is a solid, confessional Lutheran who has spoken out even on liberalism that had reared its evil face within the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod to which she belongs. As a pastor in that church body, I have listened to her speak on theological topics with the same perspicuity and conviction as in this presentation. Reply Rick Pettey says: November 13, 2019 at 9:09 pm An important point that Mrs. Hemingway brings out is the growth and battle that political conservatives are having with trying to bring down this bureaucracy. It is my contention that what is true in the political sphere is also true in the religious sphere. As a confessional Lutheran pastor fighting the bureaucracy within the church is even MORE critical that the one within politics. These two bureaucracies, although in different spheres, show many similarities. That is so because both are comprised of sinful people. The thinking and arguments in one often are reflected in the other. To that end, here is an article that I wrote some years back employing a word created by the late brilliant and much loved seminary professor, Kurt Marquart. For it is he, looking at his own church body (L.C.M.S.) that he coined the term, "Bureaucratitis". Note how easily this could be addressing the bureaucracy within the U.S. and how fidelity to God's Word could refer to fidelity to the U.S. Constitution in the political sphere. "Bureaucratitis" within the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod After almost twenty-five years as a pastor in the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod I see a condition that is afflicting many among the ranks of both clergy and laity alike. As the A.C.E.L.C. (Association of Confessing Evangelical Lutheran Congregations) continues it’s desire to address where our beloved synod has departed from our Scriptural and Confessional heritage in both doctrine and practice, it is my personal opinion that this condition that plagues so many prevents us from attacking the issue in a united front. The disease of which I speak is that coined by the late Kurt Marquart, "bureaucratitis". This condition is one where we have become more concerned about form than content. We are more concerned about following constitution, by-laws, convention resolutions, etc. than we are the Word of God. When many of my conservative brethren received the release of our original letter of concern over the state of the synod, we were taken to task for what we had done. However, no one, to my knowledge, has ever offered any evidence against the veracity of our statement. On more than one occasion I have had a confessional brother pastor respond to my objection and discontent with what is publicly occurring within one of our congregations or an event sponsored by a district by advising me to make sure and follow all of the appropriate procedures outlined in our constitution and by-laws. Though I do not wish to offend anyone with what I am about to say, I can no longer restrain myself from shouting: "I DON’T CARE WHAT THE CONSTITUTION OR BY-LAWS SAY. What I am motivated by is Scripture and The Confessions." Yes, I know, some will understand me to be saying that I feel that those who desire to adhere to the constitution and by-laws are not concerned about Scripture or The Confessions. That, I am not saying. I am simply mirroring what Marquart wrote about in his article a number of years ago. It is not that all those who turn to these documents are in any way intentionally minimizing the centrality of God’s Word or that they somehow are less faithful in such matters than myself. The point which Marquart made, and I fully agree with, is that sometimes when a bureaucracy grows beyond a certain point it takes on a life of its own. A bureaucracy becomes self-sustaining. The concern within a bureaucracy is that it’s rules and regulations are being followed. And anything that is taken to threaten that bureaucracy is viewed as antagonistic to the whole. I am also not advocating chaos and disorder by rejecting the need for a rule of order. However, when the organization, mechanism, machinery becomes that which is to be protected, then we have a real problem. How does this "bureaucratitis" show itself in a practical way within our synod? When we enact so many layers of official requirements in order to deal with a theological issue (such as in the Matthew Becker case), then "bureaucratitis" is in evidence. When district presidents are more concerned about maintaining collegiality among themselves rather than call another d.p. to repentance when he, or his district with his approval and support, have publicly advocated a doctrine or practice that the synod has historically and continuously condemned as unbiblical, then "bureaucratitis" is in evidence. When the synodical president and a district president are found guilty of sinning against the First and Second Commandments according to due process but the pronouncement is overturned due to a reading of a convention bylaw (a false reading at that) and no discipline is ever invoked and the whole matter is simply forgotten by synodical officials, then "bureaucratitis" is in evidence. When a pastor, or layperson, speaks out against the synod and he or she is spoken of as not "loving our mother church" or is labeled as schismatic, then "bureaucratitis" is in evidence. When a professor accuses you of being in jeopardy of losing your eternal salvation on account of your fear of what the synod is becoming and believing that it is necessary to speak out against the departures from our historic insistence on unity in doctrine and practice, "bureaucratitis" is in evidence. When we bring forth resolution after resolution on issues affecting our synod and they do not make it to the floor or even if they do and are voted in, nothing really ever comes of it, the issues remained unresolved, then "bureaucratitis" is in evidence. In looking back over the past 30 years where I have been active in the synods politics, I have seen a continuous decline in fidelity to our insistence on Scripture being the sole authority in the church and The Confessions as a faithful exposition to that Word. While the right words, the correct mantras continue to be employed with much pomp and circumstance throughout our synod, those twin beacons of truth, the former being the foundation for the latter, recess further and further into the distance and maintaining "good order" and peace within the ranks is the rule of the day. "Bureaucratitis" is in full bloom! Again, let me make something perfectly clear: I am not advocating anarchy. Neither am I suggesting that we throw out our constitution or by-laws or any such thing. What I am convinced we need to do is recognize that in many ways we, yes I said "we", have allowed man-made rules of order and manner of operations to interfere with, and in some instances supplant, our historic insistence on complete unity among us as Lutherans. This insistence was seen taking place during the last century where, during a convention, a pastor advocated a theological position contrary to Scripture, and therefore our historical position, and the convention came to a halt so that the erring brother could be pastorally and lovingly corrected. And once that had taken place the convention resumed. If we tried to follow that procedure today we could not complete a convention. Let us, like the Apostle Paul in correcting Peter (Gal. 2:11ff) and as advocated in The Large Catechism, Eighth Commandment (par. 284), have the faithfulness, pastoral love, and strength of conviction, to deal with public departures from Scripture and The Confessions, either in doctrine or practice, openly, publically, that all may be admonished in the truth. Let us cease this fear of "disturbing the peace" within our synod, thereby keeping us from truly dealing with so many issues that have divided our synod for far too long. Let us trust God to preserve the visible organization that is the Missouri Synod believing that it is more important to be faithful than preserve a heritage if it has, in fact, abandoned the very reason it came into existence in the first place. If these words sound rather harsh and radical or are viewed to reflect antagonism toward this synod (a synod for which I intend to fight for with every fiber of my being), let me assure anyone who reads these words, nothing could be further from the truth. I am simply echoing words spoken by the first president of the synod C.F.W. Walther at the first convention. For it was Walther himself who closed his opening sermon with these words, ""Whether our Synod gains friends or makes enemies, wins honor or invites disgrace, grows or declines in numbers, brings peace or incites enmity, all this must be unimportant to us–just so our Synod may keep the jewel of purity of doctrine and knowledge. However, should our Synod ever grow indifferent toward purity of doctrine, through ingratitude forget this prize, or betray or barter it away to the false church, then let our church body perish and the name ‘Missourian’ decay in disgrace."
