Model United Nations | Westfield State University

My name is Zuleyka Contreras, I’m a senior here at Westfield State University majoring in business management. The Model United Nations is a conference that we attend as a team. There we have the opportunity to connect with other students from different universities regarding different topics and we create a resolution paper that will help the different topics that we speak in the debates. This year I am the Head Delegate of the Model U.N. This year I was fortunate enough to represent and be one of the Head Delegates in the Model U.N. or essentially a co-president. Really what the biggest step up in being a Head Delegate is is representing your school and representing the class and reputation that we’ve had of being a prestigious club at this university. Debates can get intense and Professor [Steinberg] is always a call away to answer any questions that we have and to also support us through the whole process of just debating and coming up with the resolution paper. It’s gave me the opportunity to work on a project and then being able to apply what I’ve done to a completely different area. It has helped me not only speak in front of more than 400 students in the room, it also helped me represent Westfield State University and bring our school on the top. You meet so many people, you have all these different points of view, you have all these different backgrounds, and you create these relationships that will not only last in the United Nations, but it will last in your personal life. The experience of traveling with a purpose is undeniably the best experience you could possibly have. Being part of the Model United Nations has given me confidence, knowldge, and most importantly, a voice.
