Migration Tasmania : Successful international student graduates
Hi I’m Will Hodgman, Tasmania’s Premier.
Skilled migrants and businesses have helped to shape Tasmania into
the great place it is today as a government we’d encourage others to migrate to Tasmania too, and we provide state government nominations for
a range of businesses and skilled visas. Tasmania really is the best place to
live and work in Australia. We have a lifestyle that’s the envy of many, vibrant and welcoming communities and opportunities to make a living that’s not outweighed by the cost of
living All of this set against the backdrop of
one of the most magnificent natural environments in the world. Maybe sometime you’ll discover for yourself why Tasmania is a great place to do business and
to call home. The reason I come to Tasmania is to complete my 3rd and 4th year
studies in Bachelor of civil engineering. I got a
international student scholarship from UTAS – University of Tasmania. It will
offer 25% for international students as long as we keep our good results. We can get the Tasmanian Government visa nomination for our permanent residency. The benefit of getting a permanent residency is we can work and live in Tasmania. I have met a few mentors in my workplace and they really want to help me to develop my
career development and that that’s really nice. I’m based in Launceston and I’m working as the territory manager for Red Bull but I lived in Hobart for two years. I studied there in Hobart campus of UTAS, enjoyed living and working there as well. I started working as a brand ambassador for brands like Microsoft,
Sony and Samsung while I was studying. They were all casual roles, I was in a learning stage, I was getting experience – once I finish my degree I’ll
be able to get a full time job based on experience and the skills that I’m
learning while I’m studying and it paid off so once I finished my degree there was
a job. Red Bull was looking for a territory manager based in Launceston – I applied, luckily I found this job and it’s all because
of the experience and the hard work that I put in while I was studying. It’s a beautiful
place and in terms of employment opportunities all the big brands, big
companies, they are operating in Tasmania they always look for people who have got some good skills – if someone is seeking a good lifestyle I think Tasmania has got
everything to offer. All the students who graduated from the University of Tasmania can get the state nominated visa so it’s what i got. When I was in Beijing I actually worked in a really good company and my salary was good but i had to work over 12 hours a day. After I moved to Tasmania I could breathe the cleanest air so I decided to move to Launceston. Most of my friends they choose the University of Tasmania because the uni fee is lower than other universities.
Also because they want to practice their english. They go to Sydney or Melbourne and there are just too many Chinese, they didn’t get the chance to practice their english. My father just walked along the street and all the people he met just say hello to him so he quite enjoys it here and he’s very happy that I chose Tasmania to live.
