Hi, my name is Radhika and I’m from India,
New Delhi and I’m studying MA in film making at Kingston University. The last ten months at Kingston, my whole
experience of studying at Kingston University; the city, the country has been amazing and
I would recommend it to everyone. Last year in India we had a lot of Universities
coming to promote their colleges and they’re called University Fares and I attended one
of them. Kingston seemed the most impressive. There were people from Kingston University
and they interacted with us and explained about the University, the college, er, they
showed us pictures; they explained to me what course I was going to take up. It was very nice talking them. At the end of the fare I felt that, yes, Kingston
would be the chosen University. Living in Kingston and Kingston University
has been wonderful. I come from a protective household back in
India and this was the first time I experienced independence. I travelled on my own. I did my bills. I went to the Bank. I travelled in UK. I met people from different countries which
was very interesting and it was a wonderful experience doing everything by yourself. The professors, the teachers, the people around,
the accommodation people, they were very helpful and the whole experience of settling in the
UK has been very soothing. Kingston is all about the riverside; if you
stand next to the river you see the sun set or the sun rise; the sky; the trees; the water;
they take your breath away and for a person from India, like me, where’s there’s all
hustle and bustle and crowd, this is very scenic; the city, the place, Kingston University,
Kingston is beautiful. Film making has always been a keen interest
to me. In my undergrad I did three years of history
and by the end of it I realised that history wasn’t my cup of tea. I worked with the production house and they
made documentaries and I realised that filming was something that I wanted to take up as
a career and that’s when I realised that MA film making is what I wanted to do. Our faculty supports us in every aspect in
our studies; they are very professional; they are all BBC essers and in every aspect from
the technical to the creative, they’ve always been there. They tell us what to do, what not to do; the
little tit bits, how to protect your equipment in rain and how to treat your actors. These are very important things to know when
you’re filming and they have helped us immensely in understanding all the different aspects
of filming. For an international student like me, the
experience in Kingston University has been amazing. I mean, I live in the halls of accommodation
in Seething Wells and I get to meet other students from other countries; er students
from my country as well and the whole experience of student life here has been amazing. We get to travel on our own; its comforting
for international student who’s been living in a very different kind of a life style,
the University; the people around have made it very comfortable to adjust. I’m currently living in Seething Wells halls
of accommodation provided by Kingston University and I must truly say that Kingston University
has provided us with the best accommodation. All our bills are taken care of; all the heating
is provided; the administration of Seething Wells, the reception, they’re always there
to aid to our needs, our problems; there’s twenty-four, seven internet service. In total I should say that, er, international
student coming to Kingston University should opt for halls of residence in Seething Wells
or any other halls of residence provided by Kingston University. When I arrived, we had a whole international
event orientation day where they told us which bank we could go to; which phone connection
we could take; they were very interactive; they explained to us where to catch the train
from, what card to use, Oyster or a National Rail card, they explained every little detail
of the lifestyle; who to go to when you need help, if you need help in courier, to go to
this sector if you need help in transportation go to that sector. They made us very comfortable, I mean, I didn’t
have to go running or crying out for help anywhere. MA Film making in Kingston University has
been very helpful. It helped develop my career, my portfolio;
it has given me experience in every aspect of film making and Kingston University is
a University which gives you access to every sort of, of vocational course you want to
take up; either be a media or cancer biology or er, nutrition. Everything is available. It means you do not have to only study academy
courses which is the best part of Kingston University and I would definitely recommend
this to my friends and family.
