Master’s Degree with Initial Teaching Certification – Mr. Harris

My dad was was one of my bigger role
models growing up. As a teacher and football coach, that was big for me to
see that he was able to impact so many kids’ lives and kind of change them for
the better. I want kids to come in here and feel
comfortable. I want them to be able to learn without really any fear of
repercussions and not just like learn but like love learning. It’s definitely a
challenge but I think that the MIC definitely prepared me well for it. My
student teaching experience was wonderful. I got to shadow at multiple
schools across this district and work with some fabulous teachers as well as
teacher educators really perfecting my craft and getting a lot of really
one-on-one experience, giving me different avenues to deliver the content
as well as making it exciting for the students as well as classroom management.
The faculty gave me their phone number on the first day of class and said if
you need anything at all anything whatever you need you know text me call
me whatever time it is, so having that one-on-one relationship and being able
to call on them and have them be there for me, even now I’m I get emails – how am I doing, is there any resources that you need and I’ve reached out to several of
the faculty since starting this position. Thus far I’ve gotten a lot of
feedback in that student again feel comfortable coming in my classroom and
talking to me about problems and I expect greatness from all my students
and anything less than that is unacceptable to me and I think they
appreciate that because not everybody has that you know positive role model in
their life that holds them to high expectations and then when they when
they reach them they’re there to give them a high-five and a pat on the back
and when they don’t, kind of stay on their back. They don’t have somebody there to kind of nudge them along so the students really appreciate that because I’m genuine.
Really if you want to make a difference this is a great field to do it, but again
you can’t do it halfway. Your heart’s got to be in it, your mind’s got to be in it.
It’s got to be your passion and if it is your passion then the MIC is a wonderful
place to grow that passion as well find teachers that will help you grow
as a teacher.
