Low-flow Water System Project

(Sound of water flowing) Drinking water safety is really important and making sure that in the U.S., when you open a faucet you don’t get sick from drinking the water. The US Environmental Protection Agency issued a call for proposals to help them and the building construction community and really the drinking water public health community understand how water moves through building plumbing systems and how to basically prevent conditions which cause chemicals to leach out or organisms that can cause you to get sick to show up at your faucet. A low-flow plumbing system is a plumbing system where you have water saving and energy-saving fixtures. Low flow systems have resulted in conditions where water sits in your pipe a lot longer even if you’re living in that house and so what we’re trying to do is understand through this project what are the conditions that can be used to prevent low flow systems from resulting in unsafe water.
