Denver Law gave me the best opportunity to
make connections in the area, as well as gain those practical skills in order for me to
be the best lawyer that I can be. I was really attracted by the opportunity
to take courses, and externships and work at law firms, in-house, at companies, for
the government, and for non-profits. After I finished my first year of law school
I was able to intern every semester. I had the benefit of interning at government
agencies, at private law firms and I volunteered for a non-profit also. One of the best experiences that I’ve had here
at Denver Law was the Civil Litigation Clinic. I was able to as a 2L, represent my own clients,
go to trial multiple times throughout the semester. I mean we’re talking the first thing that
you are doing is meeting with you client one-on-one; it’s all of a sudden and no longer a case
in a book. I’ve been able to work in the Colorado Supreme
Court, the Denver District Court, this summer I am going to be working in Montgomery Alabama
at the Equal Justice Initiative. Through Denver Law and the resources that
I’ve been provided with, they have given me so many opportunities to interact with attorneys. When I came to law school I wasn’t expecting
to be so fully embraced by the Denver Law community. The first day in the orientation I went up
to a judge that was speaking and I asked him a little bit about the community and he invited me out for coffee and that
sort of kicked off being engaged in the legal community. To top it off I have felt that the Denver
law community here is diverse and collaborative and I’ve developed lifelong friendships. I
was just thrilled that I found that community here, not just with my classmates, but with
the faculty and the staff. Additionally, you can’t really beat Colorado;
it is a really awesome place to live. You get this incredible urban experience;
I mean you have what you would expect in a big metropolitan city. The weather, you get all four seasons here
in Colorado and then on top of that no matter where you go in the state of Colorado there
is a true sense of community.
