Introduction to Using the Graduate School Moodle Hub Sites

hello and welcome to this tutorial video
from the Graduate School in this video I will be giving you a tour of Moodle the
University of Portsmouth virtual learning environment and the online
resources that have been developed by the Graduate School to support you
throughout your research degree we will also look at where to find any GSDP or
graduate school development program resources that tutors have created and
collated for their workshops Moodle is accessible via Moodle.port.ac.uk or from
the link on the my port home page when you registered on your research degree
you will have been given a username which is usually u P followed by your
student number and a password these are the details you will need to log into
Moodle and access the online resources once you have logged into Moodle you
will be taken to the dashboard page where you will see any Moodle sites you
already have access to by default all research degree students when using
their student username to log into Moodle will have access to the graduate
school hub site you may also find you have access to other sites that have
been created by your department or faculty the Graduate School hub site
contains a wealth of useful resources to support your training and development
plus additional information that may be relevant to you whilst you’re at the
University of Portsmouth use the options from the homepage of the Graduate School
hub site to access the information you are looking for from the your
development section you will find information about the high quality
development and training opportunities provided by the Graduate School and the
wider University the Graduate School development program section has links
out to our 10 development hub sites with each hub site corresponding to the
development area outlined in the GSDP brochure as an example the first
development area within the brochure academic skills has a Moodle hub site
that contains information on all the GSDP workshops within the academic
skills development area and any additional resources collated by the
Graduate School please be aware here that if you click on a link and it takes
you to a site in Moodle which you do not have access to yet look for the enroll me button and click on this to get access to
the site all of the GSDP development hub sites on Moodle have been set up in the
same way so you know you will be able to quickly and easily find what you were
looking for each GSDP workshop has a star icon indicating which stage of your
research degree that workshop is most relevant to on each development hub site
you will see links to any additional resources for that development area a
link to skills Forge where you can book onto any of the GSDP workshops and the
details and resources for each workshop offered by the Graduate School if there
is a recording from a previous workshop you can find that on the hub site under
the relevant workshop along with any other resources the workshop tutor has
made available if there are any other online resources related to the workshop
such as the UEA online training series sessions free online courses from other
providers or an online version of the workshop that has been developed by the
Graduate School you will find links to these within the workshop section on the
Moodle site whilst you are navigating around Moodle you can use any of the
links in the breadcrumbs along the top to go back to the homepage of the site
you are in or the dashboard page to then navigate to a different Moodle site to
support you whilst you’re away from the University or if you are unable to
attend any of the GSDP workshops the graduate school have and continue to
develop online learning modules to support the doctorl process and your
skills as a researcher details about the online learning modules can be found in
the online training section of the Graduate School hub site click on the
link to any of the online learning modules and if required enroll yourself
on the site you will find a short blurb about the online module and information
about how long it should take you to complete all of the online modules are
self-paced and once completed provides you with the certificate which you can
evidence on skills forge as part of your research development activities
information is provided on each of the online learning sites about how to
record completion of the module on skills forge click on the start training
button to begin the online module and undertake it at your own pace within the
graduate school hub site you will also find information on the support services
available at the University of Portsmouth links to other online
training opportunities such as LinkedIn learning and resources from professional
bodies such as vitae I if you have any questions about Moodle or any of the
resources provided or if you have any recommendations or suggestions for
resources that other postgraduate research students may find useful please
