okay hello my name is Carla I come from
Belgium I study business and management and I live in block m in birks grange
village okay so how do you feel about Exeter so far so far is feels great
everybody has been super nice and it has taken me a lot of time to actually get
used to living alone by myself cooking and doing the laundry and everything
that comes with it but um it’s been nice I love the people here and everyone has
been super inclusive okay mostly during freshers pardon? mostly during freshers
what does that mean it means that um now people are still
nice but during freshers week like they’re overly nice if that makes sense
yeah it does they just everybody wants to meet everyone so you know
sometimes you make friends with people or you just start talking to people and
they don’t become your real friends they’re just like acquaintances okay so
how did you feel before coming to uni and how did you deal with it
um before coming I was really excited but that’s because I’m not really
introverted I’m I love speaking of new people like just getting to know them I
would understand how being introverted would be stressful for some but I was just
really excited to get to know people I tried a lot of societies you know just
go and meet people around and then when I got here I just dealt with it you know
just saying hi leave your door door open because if somebody wants to be you if
you want to go to somebody’s room it’s already open I know it’s scary but just
wait until you your flatmates tell you what they want to do and you have a tons
of clubs that you can just pay your entrance over there your entry over
there so it’s fine of it you kind of have you look to the freshers week plan
have you circled everything you wanted to go to? how many things that you go
south of all of you circled? omg I went to five things five is already crazy
having a week oh yeah main struggles I mean it’s not like really freshers week
is the beginning of uni is just like getting your room sorted out going
grocery shopping because obviously for some or for most of us it’s the first
time we ever do it for ourselves so yeah struggles were more like living
by myself more than the uni did you know how to use a washing machine? no it’s so bad it’s
so bad no no but it’s easy bad its so bad how many people said that it’s fine just
ask your parents but definitely ask your parents before you arrive because when
you arrive you don’t want to ask someone I asked someone in the room like listen
um how does this work really and they looked at me in such a weird way
because they were like oh my god how? oh I had a friend that was more accepting
something stressful was they’re a ton of events that
are going on yeah and I wouldn’t do them because I would
like I was kind of lazy and so I was I got stressed out because I didn’t do
anything and I was like oh my god what am I gonna do
drinking not drinking if you want to drink go ahead if you don’t know
pressure like people don’t pressure you into it I remember my first night of
freshers there was this girl she didn’t drink at all and we played like a
drinking game and every time she would drink like coke or something it was you
know no big deal if you don’t want to drink don’t drink and as they say during
freshers week you have societies that don’t make you like go to events where
you can where you have to drink so there are tons of things you can do even
though a lot of them involve drinking but you know if you don’t drink it’s
fine a ton of people from my block don’t drink
it’s fine we don’t hate them like we don’t care like you do you and you have
fun I thought that people were not gonna be as nice as they were yeah and the
school as understanding as they are because the school understands that it’s
your freshers week and that you want a party you want to have fun so we had
this party in front of our block and we were the first noise complaint of the
whole birks grange village we’re so proud and so like they were cool they just
said guys we know it’s freshers just you know tone it down be cool and so yeah
everybody understands and everybody’s really nice and you know you’re all in
the same boat yeah we’re like you know nobody knows no one like nobody knows
anyone so just you know I’m trying to make friends and people are gonna be
nice like they’re not gonna say no maybe it happened to me once I was with two
really really weird people so no it doesn’t happen at all it’s just me
that’s very unlucky there we go no I should have never said that actually I really freaked out
a lot of people it did it freaked out a lot of people I need to do a video about it
like guys by the way lots of people hype up freshers week as the week where all the events are going to be insane and they’re going to have the time of your life how did you find the freshers week event and how do
you compare them with the rest of the month that you’ve been here
I feel like freshers week is an amazing week because of the people you spend it
with what I mean is that you know the Uni doesn’t make your freshers week you choose your friends and these friends will make your freshers week I
had an amazing time during my fresher’s week because I was with friends that I
love and they’re still my friends and so it’s been the same since
that week like we haven’t changed we go out less of course but like the most fun
I had were during nights like nights nights out with friends you know
when I think of fresher’s week I really think of like about making friends going
out sleeping eating making friends going out it’s like it’s more that than anything
else j’adore! do what you want don’t feel pressured to like do every single event
there is or go to every single like class or like sports and day
time event yeah these taster sessions exactly like I’m not a very sporty
person I tried the lacross I tried there’s a day i did a lot of sports
well you know like if you don’t like sports try it try it out and don’t feel
pressure to actually do it if you don’t want to do it don’t there’s a gym
get yourself a membership and then just go to the gym it’s fine and I think the
biggest just do whatever you want because I feel like when I came to
university a lot of people pressured me well pressure me pressured people in
general to do a lot of things and be proactive and like try
everything out when obviously you don’t like everything that you know I’m not a
big fan of Harry Potter and they have Harry Potter societies I’m not going to go to
the Harry Potter Society so yeah
