The minute I stepped foot into LSBU I felt
like I was at home. They welcomed me, this was where I belonged. My name is Nawazish Chowdhury and I’m from Bangladesh. I’ve transferred over to London
South Bank University and I’m studying law. Hi I’m Daizi. I’m from Enshi City, Hubei Province
in China and now I’m an MA Journalism student here. My name is Rodrigo and I’m from Sao Paulo
in Brazil. I’ve chosen to come to LSBU as it has a very good reputation for engineering. International students make a significant
contribution to the ethos and atmosphere at LSBU. They play a key part in the university
and help create the culture and environment of diversity that we crave and seek. LSBU is very diverse, it’s something that
I really embrace, I really like. It gives me a wider view of different cultures. It
gives me a higher respect for other cultures and I think it broadens your mind more. It
makes you richer as a person. It gives me a more broaden perspective of
people in general. Understanding where they’ve come from and how they’ve got here and I think
that’s one of the best things I’ve learned while I’ve been here. It gives you good hands on experience to work
with people from diverse cultures. Given the importance we associate with those
students we provide a range of bursaries and financial support. The International Office provides a range
of advice and support for all our international students. The international student advice team at London
South Bank University is here to support international students from the point of offer, all the
way to the very end of the course at graduation. The one thing that I really loved about coming
into LSBU is how easily I transitioned. I think it was the ease of my transition into
LSBU from Bangladesh that really allowed me to feel at home; that I wasn’t going to miss
anything. LSBU offers the students a great opportunity
for work placements. We’ve developed a very strong applied focus
in terms of everything that we do. LSBU has a lot of connections with the legal
world. They hosted an Open Day, I met a barrister at that Open Day and he offered me work as
part of my module. Connections like that allowed me to establish myself in the legal world. The journalism course has offered me some
job opportunities, now I have an internship at Chinese Xinhua News Agency. Guest speakers from industry come to the university
to give us lecturers on how we can apply what we’ve learned in the University, in industry.
How we can start our careers in the industry as young graduates. It increases your employability. Given the challenges students find when they’re
moving to a different country, we guarantee all our eligible first years access to accommodation
here at LSBU, to help with that transition. My name is Brie Merritt, I’m from Greenville,
South Carolina (USA). I came here and I didn’t know anyone. The kitchen was a great place
to meet new people. The Common Room is also very good, there’s a piano. It’s also a great
place to meet new people; people from everywhere. The facilities in London South Bank University
are very good, especially up to date journals that you can get from the library and also
up to date text books. The library has everything, there are librarians
and secretaries in there that are willing to help you; they’re waiting for you to ask
them to help you. Coming to London offered me a much better
opportunity to work in the robotics and field.engineering The degrees from the university are highly
respected and are acceptable all over the world. The great thing about LSBU is that we are
located in the city centre. I really like London, I think it’s a great place to be,
and it accommodates everyone. I feel like I’ve grown as a person. I feel like London is my second home, I can
feel very relaxed here. I love London so much.
