Hi, my name is Tofunmi Anyi. I’m a fourth
year international student at York University. I’m currently taking health informatics at
the School of Health Policy and Management in the faculty of health. When I explain to people I say health informatics
is information technology in healthcare , but it’s more than that. It’s kind of a combination
of information, science, technology and healthcare. It’s kind of a way of improving health using
technology. During the course of study, I realized I’m
interested in global health because I want to see how technology can be used to improve
healthcare in third world countries. So, I want to do my masters in public health. Most universities do not give scholarships
to interntational students and then I found out that York actually gives scholarships
to international student so I was really working hard to get a really high average so that
I can get a scholarship and I did get a scholarship. I got an entrance scholarship. Making friends, it was like once you got past
the whole introductory stage, it was easier to relate with them. And then when you get
involved, everyone gets pumped about what they are doing so that kind of made it easier.
If there is someone who is worried about the transition process, one thing i will tell
you is “get involved” because when you get involved, you get to
meet people. There are various things that can be offerred through the faculty of health.
You could go to OSAS for academic advising. You can go to York International to get more
information about being an international student at York. You could get involved in several associations. There are so many ways you can
get involved, you just have to want to get involved.
