So we started coming to Recreation Services because we’ve always liked living an active life, and we actually started off coming attending yoga classes and Pilates classes with a friend from Malaysia that we had just met. We started doing bouldering as well because we’ve never done before wanted to try it. It was pretty cool so and then we played badminton on the weekends as well because badminton is a really big thing back in Malaysia for us. It was a great way we could socialize and stay active as well. So there are a lot of services provided by Recreation Services. You can just swipe your card and it’s for free, included in your tuition so you don’t have to worry about signing up or registering for extra classes. You can come come in and just swipe your card. You can work out, pump some iron or just run on the treadmills or the track. Or you can actually come to a group fitness classes. We have yoga, Pilates and even like strength training if you’re interested in that too. So just bring your card and you can swipe in. And you don’t really have to worry about equipment at all, they have equipment here and you can borrow it and use it for a class or like you need resistance and want to work out by yourself. We have the equipment check out desk where you can check out basketballs or skipping ropes and things like that as well also if you want to compete with other students on campus, you can actually use sign up and compete with different people. Wether its badminton, volleyball, tennis or just anything at all you, name it you can just join and just have fun. It’s really nice how we have outdoor recreation services at all so you can sign up for like a weekend trip or like a trip to go hiking, camping, kayaking, canoeing, anything at all. It’s really fun, you can go with a group of friends or meet new people as well. As international students, we can only work on campus. Just to let you all know that Recreation Services is actually an option for everyone. You can work as a yoga instructors Pilates instructor any group fitness instructor. Or you can work with the facility just working with equipment checkout or just working with coordinating buildings. It’s really fun you learn a lot through working at the Rec because you learn how to work with different people. You work on building team working skills and youcommunicate with a lot of different people every day so you gain communication skills and also you’re learning to be put yourself out there and take, take the lead also. So you get a little bit of leadership skill depending on what position you’re taking. We start off actually as a yoga instructor and then he went into being a Smart Eats trainer as well. So we helped develope this new program with our other students who are also personal trainers here. Then we did 10 workshops to showcase and to promote the program and also to help people learn about nutrition as well. It’s really fun, I love working here. People are nice and it’s easy. You get to work out and get paid Its a win-win! So we both are getting a Dietetics internship through the Dietetic internship program and from working at the Rec Services we actually gained a lot of skills that really helped us for applying for the internship. Because we gained a lot of leadership skills which a lot of people are looking for if you’re ever looking for a job or internship. And also communication skills, it’s really important as well because you have to learn to talk to different people every day and working with different people every day as well
