there are numerous number of activities
students can be here about both in terms of going outside and having fun. Sometimes the city of Valpo is defined as a small town. Yet there is so much to do and so
much around it. Very easy to come and enjoy yourself. Being so close to Chicago is definitely a really big
plus, to go there and have fun and come back and we’ll always have a home to
come back and then also like being close to like a big city. So it’s like really cool to be close to Chicago. One of the best things about valpo is that we combine a
small and safe town with access to a large metropolis offers a variety of
culinary cultural and entertainment activities. We host us boat cruise every year
which we call the Spring Gala which is for spring semester and it’s just a
boat, a dance party and with food where we take all international students – or
whoever wants to be a part of it- and they just go to Chicago along the
Chicago River. We’re in a cruise we’re dancing we’re eating good food, we’re dressed up, and it’s a great time. University athletics is definitely a unique part of
the US university life. Students can go to our basketball games where our team is
immensely popular and successful. I really like going to men’s basketball games. Every time I go I got so excited. There’s a whole array of sports for you to go and watch. You can attend those for free. For students who want
to actually participate and play sports, you can
play intramural sports. It’s a competition, but any student can come and play There are soccer intramurals, there are softball intramurals, there are football intramurals I can’t name all of them right now…
basketball. The dunes are really close to Valpo
and you can go swimming, you can lay by the beach, you can watch the sunset at the beach, and you can go
hiking. So the Dunes is actually in the National Park, where you can equally enjoy being in nature and have fun with your friends and doing various things at the dunes. We have a variety of international student organizations such as VISA the
Valparaiso International Student Association, the African Student
Association, the Chinese Student Association I’m in the International Student Association. Our main focus is to get international students integrated into the
community of Valpo so we try to set a campus mission of that. International students and American students. And so we have many different events. Our biggest
event is called the World Banquet It’s in the spring. So we have World Banquet in the spring and food. At World Banquet we have various cultures, students, international students performing and we have cuisine from all around the world and it’s just
a great time where people come to explore what’s on campus. And it’s all student-run, so the students represent their countries and we run it. Food Bazaar happens in the fall in front of the Homecoming game. It is where everybody gets food. They eat food from
China and Indonesia and Uzbekistan And so we have about 15 countries represented. Downtown Valpo is only a 10-minute walk from campus. In the downtown area
students can experience a variety of opportunities like shopping, restaurants,
cafes, the Central Park Plaza which offers ice skating in the winter and
concerts in the summer. There’s a lot of things that you can do in terms of like having fun.
It’s funny how it’s defined as a small town yet there’s so much to do and so much around it. It’s very easy to come and enjoy yourself.
