Cal State Long Beach has over 2,000 international students from over 100 countries and here are some of them sharing their stories with you Excited excited excited and This is my last semester, so I’m doing a lot of stuff I meet a lot of people everyday, and then that’s what that’s something I really love about like talking to like new people people have like different backgrounds of Perspectives, and so yeah, I’m so excited every day Most days I feel very fortunate to go to a school like Cal State Long Beach It’s definitely something that not everybody gets to have the opportunity to do So continuing my education from high school and into a community college. I definitely feel very fortunate to be here On most days I feel like I’m homesick, but because I have many friends here and Like I hangout with all those Omani students and other country students from Saudi Arabia from America from Mexico but I have a lot of friends so I feel like I’m at home actually Away from my You’re proud of me, and I feel great to be here around all of these great people and there’s great professors, and there’s amazing place I’m driving a car Because even in Korea. You don’t really have to drive. I know a lot of people driving, but usually like it takes subways or buses Before I came to U.S. like everyone was scared that as like because what we see in TV it’s like a dangerous country, so that’s a real surprise me like the people who are Very nice to you and you know that’s that’s really good the Americans They’re amazing people and they are different, but they are different in a good way, and I feel great around them. They’re really comfortable What surprised me the most is Living in the u.s.. You need really need to be independent like back home I Feel I always feel like I have always had my family behind my back I always have friends to support me and all the time, but here I’m here by myself, so I have to have a mentality that I have always have to be independent For me what surprised me the most was probably the education difference so the system from the United Kingdom Versus the US was definitely different I came here when I was pretty young so third grade It’s really it’s really good like you can study, but at the same time you can do internship here But this is something that I didn’t really expect like in Korea To be here facing challenges every day of my life Yeah the challenge that I’m really proud of that I accomplished is that having a degree CSULB Which is like…I’m really proud of because this is my last semester, and I’m almost done so I’m proud of that Challenge that I have overcome would probably be Picking Community College as the best route for me. So from high school,I decided that I wanted to go to a four-year university But I wasn’t sure where yet and I had got accepted into a few places But as an international student fees can be very high so choosing Community College was probably the best route for me so that way I could go ahead and transfer into a school and It’ll be affordable, but also the best choice for me as well in that also I was part of a CPD Junior mentoring program, and they I am the president of International Students Association this semester, and it’s something that I’ve been Challenging is language like when I got here if it’s been three years that I lived here But when I got here for the first story They really don’t know how to communicate with people and that that was something that I really like Challenging. It was really challenging Oh that’s a hard question… I think uh…I look nicer… or I’m nicer than I look. that’s the surprise for them Americans would definitely be surprised to say that I’m British because I don’t have my accent I’ve been here since third grade, so about 8, and it’s kind of gone But it’ll come and go with my family so That I’m colorblind. I’m totally colorblind. But partially I can see green and blue and gray so I can’t see the difference of The color of the tree and the color of the ocean and the color of the sky Yeah, that’s it Think home means where your heart is I think you can make home out of anywhere Home means family to me and the fact that I’m surrounded by a lot of well driven Motivated and like-minded people just makes me feel home Home is where you can be yourself You’re passionate about What you really love, and then that’s something that you can do at home So I feel home here in Cal State Long Beach every day every semester, so yeah Where I fit in so where I feel great and Where I can find myself and here I totally find myself
